Zimbabwean domestic cricket - questions

Post by ozzeruk »

Hello guys,

I'm the guy behind the 'Cricket Coach 2009' game available for the PC. I'm posting here because I'm updating the game for next season and I'd like to get the Zimbabwean element of it correct. Basically I've got a couple of questions about the format of Zimbabwean domestic cricket, and if anybody could volunteer the answers then that would be great.

Zimbabwean domestic cricket has 5 teams right? Does this look like staying the same for 10/11? My research has been a bit difficult because of the multitude of names used for each team. Here is what I have at the moment.

Mashonaland (Eagles) - Lamb, Price, Chigumbura etc...
Matebeleland (Tuskers) - Ebrahim, Dabengwa, Vermulen etc...
Mid West Rhinos - Taylor, Sibanda etc...
Mountaineers - Masakadza, Matsikenyeri, Taibu etc...
Southern Rocks - the Ervines, Tikolo etc...

The 'Vipers' in the T20 competition, this is a Namibian select XI isn't it? Did they send a full strength side?

Are there any major changes planned for the 2010/11 season? Or any minor ones such as a different point scoring scheme?

Thanks in advance for any assistance. Some people complained that the Zimbabwean domestic scene in my earlier games wasn't realistic enough, so I'm making an extra big effort this time!

Cheers,

Oli Norwell

(Note I won't link to my site, as this may break forum rules, but a simple google search will find the game, if any of you wish to test the Zimbabwean domestic setup in the current release)

5 teams, no change this season. If you're looking to link the current franchises to the historical provinces:
Mashonaland > Northerns > Mashonaland Eagles
Matabeleland > Westerns > Matabeleland Tuskers
Midlands > Centrals > Mid West Rhinos
Manicaland > Easterns > Mountaineers
Masvingo > Southerns > Southern Rocks

Yes, Desert Vipers were a Namibian Select - it wasn't their full national side. No word yet on if they'll be taking part in this year's competition - ZC haven't released the domestic calendar yet.
Are there any major changes planned for the 2010/11 season? Or any minor ones such as a different point scoring scheme?
One of the big problems with ZC is that you never find out about such things until they happen! All I know at the moment is that it'll be the same three competitions as last year - if there are any changes in format for them, we won't know until the schedules are released.

With the lack of information we sometimes get, getting the domestic format exactly right is going to be a thankless task. Nice to see someone trying, though. If only you had a Mac version. :)

is there any chance to get former national superstar Gus Mackay in as maybe a secret player that has maximum skill

Maybe unlock him with a special code or earn him by hitting six after six from the bowling attack when you play the game?

You will often find people round here look up to him as a goddess.
Cricinfo profile of the 'James Bond' of cricket:

Why do people still think that Zimdoggy is actually Gus Mackay??? Mackay is managing director of Surrey CCC, and is in his mid 40s... I don't think he is going to be wasting his time making self-promotional jokes on an internet forum...

A talented batsman but a modest, hardworking character, Stuart Matsikenyeri is the third of three school friends from Churchill Boys High School, Harare to represent Zimbabwe in international cricket. - Cricinfo.
