Is it true Vusi Sibanda coached a young Steve Smith?

Post by chesterton » Thu Oct 10, 2019 3:16 pm

Breaking away from the controversy of forum infiltration for a moment, just wanted to hear anyone’s thoughts on whether it’s true Vusi helped mould the younger Steve Smith prior to cracking it big?

The story goes that Vusi went to Sydney around ten years back and encountered Steve struggling with the batting side of his all round skills.

Vusi worked with him in some capacity to help fine tune his game, Steve has gone on to be one of the top 5 batters in the world today and the rest is history.

I am wondering if anyone knew more of this story ?

I heard this before somewhere and people were talking about it in a pub in Edgeware and I joined in and was reminded.

Vusi did indeed come to Sydney but he played club cricket for Eastern Suburbs, Smith’s club is Sutherland so it’s highly unlikely they ever trained together or even crossed paths.

If Vusi is that good why not retire and become the batting coach
