[Series Thread] Zimbabwe XI in Netherlands

Post by maehara »

Netherlands v Zimbabwe XI: ODI
VRA Ground, Amstelveen, 23 July 2010

Netherlands have just beaten Bangaldesh to claim a place on the full ODI rankings table (although the ICC haven't updated the table to show their position yet), so the Dutch shouldn't be underestimated. I suspect that they'll make their debut above Zimbabwe, as their record against Kenya and Ireland isn't too bad either and those matches will count for their initial placing. Fear not, though, this match is non-ranking as it's not the senior Zimbabwe side.

Zimbabwe XI Squad: Vusi Sibanda (captain), Forster Mutizwa, Sean Williams, Craig Ervine, Charles Coventry, Chamu Chibhabha, Regis Chakabva, Stuart Matsikenyeri, Tendai Chatara, Ed Rainsford, Keith Dabengwa, Shingi Masakadza, Natsai Mushangwe, Nathan Waller, Timycen Maruma

Netherlands Squad: Bas Zuiderent (captain), Adeel Raja, Wesley Barresi, Mudassar Bukhari, Tom Cooper, Steven de Bruin (wicketkeeper), Tom de Grooth, Maurits Jonkman, Bradley Kruger, Ruud Nijman, Pieter Seelaar, Nick Statham, Eric Szwarczynski

4/87 after 30 overs, this has been a good bowling performance so far especially by Nathan Waller with 2/24 after 10 overs. Tom Cooper is approaching 50, it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to reintroduce Ed Rainsford.

A disturbing part of Sibanda's captaincy today is his failure to introduce a 5th bowler into the attack by the 30th over. I'm not sure whether he's banking on bowling them out by the 40th over, but he is soon going to find himself in the situation of bowling 2 or 3 part timers to get through the overs.

Edit: and there we go, just as I write this Williams is brought into the attack and Cooper is out. All is well again :)

What on earth has Sean Williams done to deserve being relegated to the lower order?
At 5/111 this looks like a very ordinary batting performance; extremely disappointing. Only Coventry has made a decent score, and despite a very good start to his ODI career and a fantastic one-day average Craig Ervine is still struggling to rotate the strike.

This is absolute nonsense. 6 down and still no sign of Williams.
What role are they defining for him? Or did he suffer some freak injury again?
