[Series Thread] Zimbabwe XI in Canada

Post by maehara »

Canada v Zimbabwe XI: Intercontinental Cup
2-5 August 2010, King City, Toronto

Wunderground Weather sticker

Zimbabwe XI Squad: Vusi Sibanda (capt), Forster Mutizwa, Sean Williams, Craig Ervine, Charles Coventry, Chamu Chibabha, Regis Chakabva, Stuart Matsikenyeri, Tendai Chatara, Ed Rainsford, Keith Dabengwa, Shingirai Masakadza, Natsai Mushangwe, Nathan Waller, Timycen Maruma.

Can't find any announcement for the Canada squad as yet.

Canada are propping up the tournament table at the moment, having failed to win any of their matches, and with Zimbabwe XI fresh from a comfortable win against Netherlands I know who my money would be on for this one...

I expect the Matsikenyeri-Ervine express to continue its charge.

After the well deserved win against the Dutch it will be interesting to see if the same XI are selected for this match

Zim are on a hiding to nothing as everyone expects them to win against these sides while waiting in the wings to use any failure as a reason for stopping a full international return, so well done in the field for grinding the Dutch down on the last day to ensure victory

It seems rather odd that it's arrive in Canada and play the 4 day match straight off and then a couple of one dayers, i would have thought that a game or two to acclimatise before the Intercontinental match would have made more sense, but who am i ?

Well done to Nathan Waller on his debut but my choice would be to bring Tendai Chatara in for him against Canada so that they both get some experience, that leaves Forster Mutizwa, Keith Dabengwa and Sean Williams, do we leave things as they were ? do we bring in Williams, if fit, or even Dabengwa for Stuart Matsikenyeri or Charles Coventry ? Mutizwa for Regis Chakabva ? drop Timycen Maruma down the order and leave out Natsai Mushangwe to strengthen the batting ?

Such fun and lots of differences of opinion no doubt, whoever the starting XI are they need to be 100% focussed on a convincing Zim win

Just like me :D

I wouldn't mess too much with the side for the Intercontinental Cup match - as you say, it's the one where people are waiting for us to slip up, so stick with the winning combination.

The one-dayers, though, are a good chance to make sure that everyone gets some match-time.

he deserves it given his strong performances and the main teams weak playing.
A talented batsman but a modest, hardworking character, Stuart Matsikenyeri is the third of three school friends from Churchill Boys High School, Harare to represent Zimbabwe in international cricket. - Cricinfo.

A lot of changes to the team; Williams in for Chibhabha, Mutizwa for Coventry, Chatara for Waller, Dabengwa for Mushangwe.

Sounds like a good toss for Zim to win, let's hope that Rainsford, Masakadza and Chatara can make the most of the conditions

Matsikenyeri, Williams, Dabengwa, Ervine, Mutizwa, Chakabva, Maruma, Masakadza, Rainsford, Chatara and Sibanda according to cricinfo, which means Mushangwe, Chibhabha, Coventry and Waller are the men to miss out

3 seamers, 1 spinner and 3 part time spinners in the side

Let's get in amongst the wickets as quickly as possible, batting just after lunch would be good :D

7-0 after 2 overs
