Are you saying Mushy is as good as Smith?
ODIs, by the numbers, yes. Mushy in the past 5 years has actually even been better than Kane Williamson. I remember we had this discussion before and I pointed out Mushy's numbers aren't an anomaly like many batsmen, because his averages get better against the stronger sides and then also in away games vs home games. He's a very anti-Bangladeshi batter in those regards. Now I understand, playing for Bangladesh he will be undervalued vis a vis his numbers (last 5 years average of ~50 at ~90 strike rate may not be world class, but its not poor either). Personally, I also find his compact game very aesthetically pleasing to watch. Even when he edges the ball he looks technically gifted.

Kane Williamson gets a similar treatment. He's a far better batsman than Joe Root, and he's about as good Smith (Smith is better in Tests, KW is better in ODIs).

I will say I was 100% wrong about Babar Azam. He proved it at the World Cup last year. Scored some very good runs.

There’s Kohli, Smith, Kane & Babar has recently joined them; then there’s the rest ......

No stats you can show me that will change my mind and I have feeling most will agree. What works against Mushy also is that he bats down at 5-7. In ODI cricket those other 4 guys all bat 3 and in tests it’s 3 or 4.

If Mushy wants to be in that class of player he needs to man up and bat 3 in ODI cricket & 4 in Tests. All the best players bat in the top 4 the only guy who was the exception was AB who was a freak.

Thats the problem. In sports there is only numbers. Given, the right context, 2 will always be greater than 1, IMO.

Mushy bats at 4 in ODIs now. In fact he has for most of the past 5 years. In Tests he bats mostly at 5-6 and thats why his average there is mid 30s when it should be 40 or even higher.

Since 2015, Mushy's ODI averages by position:

#3 - 1 innings, avg 28
#4 - 59 innings, avg 52
#5 - 7 innings, avg 42
#6 - 7 innings, avg 46
#7 - 1 innings, avg 36

There’s always more than numbers; numbers can be misleading. Mushy is no doubt a great international player but he’s not in the same class as the four guys I’ve mentioned.

Its clear that most of us are picking our favorites and not just the guys with the best stats. Makes for an interesting draft!

The statistical undertones of this second draft always meant that Jaybro & Kriterion would keep us entertained with several dozen pages of controversially argued statistical intepretations ;)

Kiwis are proving quite popular, and I would have gladly taken them all, in fact Shakib was a last minute change from Ross Taylor, another personal favourite.

With pick number 13 I select Mr Shane Bond who just about made it into 2010, although I have no idea (and don't really care) what his stats for the last few of his international appearances are.
