What jaybro did there is equivalent to:

1. Showing red rag to a bull
2. Going fishing in troubled waters.
3. Saying "Come on bull, hit me" :)

a.k.a. inviting trouble.

This site should have been renamed 'draftcricketforums.com'.

To the point, if it were me, I'd implement a 20 test minimum rule and do something similar in terms of overs bowled/wickets taken and run milestones.

Minimum 3000 runs or some shit like that.

I can imagine a ZIMDOGGY XI:

1. Lou Vincent
2. Herschelle Gibbs
3. Hansie Cronje (c)
4. Mohammad Azharuddin
5. Marlon Samuels
6. Manoj Prabhakar
7. Thami Tsolekile (w)
8. Lonwabo Tsotsobe
9. Danish Kaneria
10. Mohammad Amir
11. Mohammad Asif
Not a massive Thami Tsolekile fan, but otherwise a good side.

Too bad you could never count on these guys to play to their best!
Reminds me of the Pakistan team.

When you look on wikipedia at the list of players charged with match-fixing it is 60-70% Pakistani. South Africa is probably the next best represented.
Neil Johnson, Alistair Campbell, Murray Goodwin, Andy Flower (w), Grant Flower, Dave Houghton, Guy Whittall, Heath Streak (c), Andy Blignaut, Ray Price, Eddo Brandes

Once I get the XIs from each of you, I will finish the stats database and scoring to determine the seedings as follows:

#8 vs #9 (Qualifier game) - winner plays #1 in the first round.

#1 vs #8/9
#4 vs #5

#3 vs #6
#2 vs #7

Winner of 1 vs 8 plays winner of 4 vs 5 in semifinal 1. Likewise for semi-final 2.

Details on the scoring criteria:

Batsmen averages (or score in the playoff random innings) x strike rate and bowler averages/econ rates will be compared to the median values as follows:

Opening batsmen (average 27.72, SR 76.22)
3-5 batsmen (average 26.71, SR 75.00)
6/7 batsmen (average 19.5, SR 77.52)
8-11 tailenders (average 9.00, SR 66.66)

seam bowlers (avrage 38.14, econ 5.65)
spin bowlers (average 63.83, econ 5.56)

In the playoffs, if a batsmen is not out, only his strike rate will be used to get a final score because its harsh to judge a guy who is 5 not out because he didn't get many balls to face. Similarly if a top order bat is 50 not out off 90 balls his low strike rate will earn him a deservedly low but non-zero final score.

Similarly a bowler who takes no wickets, will be judged on his econ rate only. 0 for 21 off 10 overs is still a fantastic bowling display and his score will reflect that. Similarly 4 for 70 will be mitigated by the poor economy rate.

Wicket-keeping is more complicated, so I will simply take the number of dismissals (caught WK + stumpings) and divide it by the median value of 1.231 dimissals per innings. That will also be used as the number in the playoffs.

Because all teams have the same number of players, I could report the final team scores as either a total or an average. I will probably do it as an average, because it will then give you an easy way to compare to your individual players' scores.

Thats pretty much it, I think. If I have anything that I forgot, I'll update it inthis thread below. We should be able to start the playoffs in the next 3-4 days hopefully. I hope this is fairly simple and easy to understand but I'm happy to explain if anyone is confused.

Again, please double check my stats. A simple typo could mean the difference between you losing and winning!

Oh forgot one major thing.

At the moment, I am thinking of running the random innings "simulation" in the following manner:

1) will use the random number generator on google

2) If its not terribly time consuming, I will do it only using the innings at the position you've listed your batter. This doesn't apply for bowlers. I don't think this will pose many problems unless its obvious someone was intentionally selecting most of his players with that in mind. Yes, you didn't technically break any rules, but it goes against the "spirit of simulation cricket".

3) Only innings from Jan 1, 2010 onwards will count.
