[Simulation 1]: Draft 2 | World ODI Teams (2010-present)
I've got all the teams and the stats database done. I will be posting the actual rosters in my following posts below. Feel free to double check the stats, although once the simulation starts, I won't be able to change anything. So the final standings are...
1) grant - 4.408
2) foreignfield - 3.499
3) rusty - 3.474
4) brmtaylor - 3.407
5) zimbos - 3.342
6) Kriterion - 3.222
7) eugene - 3.188
7) mueddie - 3.188
9) jaybro - 3.092
So this means we already have drama in the competition. eugene and mueddie are tied for 7th which means I have to figure out a tie-breaker. I'll just a random number generator.
First for eugene = 8. And mueddie = 13.
So eugene vs jaybro for the 8/9 qualifier.

OK this playoff simulation is going to take a lot longer than I originally thought. Fuck me. LOL.

Wow, I didn't see that coming. I mean it got obvious during the draft that there would be daylight between grant and the rest, but I never expected to finish this high. I always had confidence in my bowling attack (2nd after grant), and only picking 5 bowlers seems like a good move, but my batting holds up better than I thought (7th), and that with Dravid and Shiv--no one else managed to pick even a single batsman with a rating under 1, lol. Statistically a lot of my batting depends on Oram and Bond . And all of a sudden my MVP Jacob Oram doesn't look like such an exotic pick (second only to Rashid in the MVP standings, I think); tbh, I never looked at his SR which is damn good
The playoffs are for Team grant to lose ... the pressure is on! But the margins between positions 2 and 9 are pretty small which throws this part of the playoffs wide open. I've got a hunch that the sides with a lot of batting power will do better in the random innings format, but it will be interesting to see how much weight for example one stand-out innings, like a big hundred, will have (or else a cheap 5-for).

I guess making BMac my captain was a poor choice statistically
I guess this proves my point that I usually argue with my favourite sparring partner Kriterion; that there’s more to the game than just stats

Re: [Simulation 1]: Draft 2 | World ODI Teams (2010-present)
It has as much to do with the way the maths are done here, i.e. that tailenders carry the same weight as top order batsmen. There's no other way in which my batting line-up with its stats from the 2010s outscores your or eugene's top and middle order consistently. Eugene's batting is heavily underrated because he's got the weakest tail from no. 8 to 11, but realistically, if you've got Hussey and Russell as finishers after KW, Babar A. and Morgan, how often will you have to call on Boult and Ajmal to save the day?
If I'm not mistaken my team will face mueddie28 -- against a contest between bowling and batting is looming.
