Series Thread: Logan Cup 'A' Division

Post by maehara »

First-round matches are due to kick off on Thursday (17th) - current uncertainty in Zim doesn't appear to be affecting the cricket yet. Matches are:
Easterns v Northerns at Mutare Sports Club
Centrals v Westerns at Kwekwe Sports Club

The official ZC website has just put up a very smart looking page for the Logan Cup.

http://www.zimcricket.org/logancup/

I highly doubt it will be updated sufficiently regularly, but it does look promising...

ZC has an overstaffed media department , and yet its one of the worst ever amongts all full member nations.

They happened alright...
Northerns beat Easterns by 65 runs.
Centrals beat Westerns by 7 wickets.
Both matches ended on day three. No details from ZC yet, but CricInfo have a few details here.

I've tried to decipher Cricinfo's scarce details, this is what I have come up with:
Logan Cup
Northerns vs Easterns
Nthns (?/???, B Taylor 62, S Masakadza 3/??, S Mujaji 3/?? & ?/???, T Maruma 7/82) def. Estns (?/???, H Masakadza 60, J Marumisa 52, R Price 4/12 & 10/154, R Price 5/39, G Cremer 3/42)

Logan Cup
Centrals vs Westerns
Ctrls (?/??? & 3/???) def. Wstns (10/187, T Ngulube 111 & ?/???)
Worth mentioning that (reported on Cricinfo) a lot of players want to travel to England to play club cricket, but aren't being permitted to. Regis Chakabva and Friday Kasteni are in Australia at the Centre of Excellence, which is great news (but bad news for Northerns who are without both Chakabva and Taibu who is in India not playing cricket).

its good to see that easterns are finally getting beaten :) It should be a close tournment and i think easterns are going to loose their title to Northerns because on paper they are the stronger side. ZC still havent relesed any scorecards which isnt suprising

Brendan Taylor, Ray Price and Graeme Cremer alone should be enough to win the title for Northerns.

What I will be interested to see is which players will make comebacks. Last year it was Charles Coventry who made an unexpected appearance. It would be nice to see Gavin Ewing return this year. He returned to Zimbabwe about a week or two ago.

I don't know anything about Tafafdzwa Ngulube. Fair play to him, the only century of the first round in a low scoring game, and still a teenager.
