Casuals Cricket Festival

Post by bayhaus »

Does anyone have any info about the Casual Cricket festival tha used to be held in Mutare at the Mutare Sports Club. It was held during the August holidays.
- There were four teams of which one was Foresters, I dont remember the oyther three
- Age group was grade 6-form 2
- Players were selected from across the country with promising players from Mutare being included as well.

Format
- 35minutes each way
- Each bowler with limited amount
- Had to bowl specific number of overs within the allocated time
- The last two guys who were batting and who were not out in the game opened in the next game(I LOVED this one!)
- After all the teams had played each other the one with the most points would win
- Then two teams would be selected from the the players team. Stragglers-included all boys from schools within Harare only and Casuals would consit of all those outside Harare, then they would play a match after that.
- You would remain in the team for the years that you were eligible to play

Penalties
- Not complete overs
- delaying to come to crease

Players
Names of some players who graced the festival between, 1990 - 1993(The time I was eligible...)
Kevin Barbour was a coach for one of the teams, so was Kevin Walton
- Andy Blignaut
- Barnabus Masawi(If anyone has NAY information on thios dude as he was the best allrounder, batting and bowling and was extremly talented, was better than Trevor Madondo! he was from Churchill)
