[Series Thread] Inter-Provincial 'B' Competitions

Post by maehara »

Series thread for these, as a) I doubt ZC's ability to give us results for these after last year's fiasco, and b) I doubt there'll be as much interest as in the senior tourneys anyway.

Round One:
Mountaineers v Eagles (allegedly in Mutare, but I suspect these'll be moved to Harare)
Rocks v Tuskers (in Masvingo)

24-26 September: Logan Cup 'B'
29 September: Pro40
30 September: Twenty20

The Mountaineers B League games are being played at Mutare Boys High . Mutare Sports Clubs' outfield is being given a facelift .I will try to get pictures of the progress at the ground .

Matabeleland Tuskers B take on Southern Rocks B

Senior Sports Reporter

MATABELELAND Tuskers B take on their Southern Rocks counterparts in a three-day cricket match starting at Masvingo Sports Club this morning.
Coached by Stanley Timoni, the second string Tuskers side will be hoping to continue with their good display of last season which saw them finish on top in the Second League which was played on a two-day format.
Matabeleland Tuskers B will field new signing, wicketkeeper Adam Wheater, who arrived on Monday from England. The former England Under-19 wicketkeeper is playing in the match to get some game time ahead of the Tuskers Logan Cup match against Southern Rocks starting at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo on Thursday.
Wheater is expected to make up the team's batting line-up with skipper Tafadzwa Ngulube, Mbekezli Mabuza, Bradley Staddon, Nkosana Mpofu, Neil Davidson and Bayden Venna.
Pace bowler Godwin Mamhiyo, the leading wicket taker for Matabeleland Tuskers B last season, leads the bowling attack with Thabo Mboyi. Leg spinner Dumisani Mankunzini and off spinner Titus Chipare also have a huge role to play with the ball.
Matabeleland Tuskers B squad:
Tafadzwa Ngulube (captain), Mbekezeli Mabuza, Adam Wheater (wicketkeeper), Bradley Staddon, Nkosana Mpofu, Dumisani Mankunzini, Titus Chipare, Neil Davidson, Bayden Venna, , Godwin Mhamhiyo, Thabo Mboyi, Sydwell Ndlovu, Devesh Hassan, Chris Mwanza.

That's very interesting. I had been meaning to post a thread saying it was a bit disgraceful how Mountaineers weren't playing in mutare, as I'd heard that the ground was simply in poor condition. That said, if the whole franchise concept is to work properly, the franchises do need to play at home. Developing local talent within their region, and maintaining local facilities is a central part of their remit.

You'd have thought that, other than Wheater, they all are. What on earth would be the point of recruiting foreign players with 0 pedigree to play for your second team?

Changes to the calendar already, and it's only round one. Tomorrow's one-day matches:
Rhinos B v Mountaineers B at Kwekwe
Rocks B v Tuskers B at Masvingo

T20 fixtures between the same sides on Thursday.
