Mountaineers v New Zealand 'A': Tour Match
Harare Sports Club, 3-4 October 2010
Opening match of the tour - New Zealand arrive in Harare late on Friday night, so not much time for them to get acclimatised. Mountaineers get the match as they're on a Logan Cup bye week, and will be at full strength now that the Ireland series is over.
Incidentally, here are the two national squads for the series:
Zim Squad: Vusi Sibanda (captain), Prince Masvaure, Steve Marillier, Craig Ervine (1st game only), Sean Williams (1st game only), Forster Mutizwa, Malcolm Waller, Tino Mawoyo, Friday Kasteni, Regis Chakabva, Taurai Muzarabani, Michael Chinouya, Solomon Mire, Trevor Garwe, Keegan Meth, Charles Coventry (2nd and 3rd games only), Natsai Mushangwe, Tendai Chatara, Njabulo Ncube, Tinashe Panyangara, Timycen Maruma.
NZ Squad: James Franklin (captain), Graeme Aldridge, Brent Arnel, Nick Beard, Dean Brownlie, Daniel Flynn, Martin Guptill, Gareth Hopkins (wk), Jamie How, Peter Ingram, Tim McIntosh, Chris Martin, Jeetan Patel, Bhupinder Singh, Reece Young.

Re: [Match Thread] Mountaineers v New Zealand 'A'
There is some talented players in the New Zealand A side. Brent Arnel is a quality pace bowler, Tim McIntosh is one of the top domestic performers with the bat while Jeetan Patel is an experienced spinner. I think this New Zealand A team would match up well against the full Zimbabwean team.
Neil Johnson, Alistair Campbell, Murray Goodwin, Andy Flower (w), Grant Flower, Dave Houghton, Guy Whittall, Heath Streak (c), Andy Blignaut, Ray Price, Eddo Brandes

This series will be excellent experience for the 2nd string. A good series here would really push someone's name towards the full team.
Re: [Match Thread] Mountaineers v New Zealand 'A'
I think that they should have waited until after the present round of matches to select this side. Someone like Terry Duffin would surely be a decent bet for these 4 day matches, and Sikander Raza looks promising. Also, I'm a little surprised that Mark Vermeulen is nowhere to be seen, as he did score an outstanding ton for the Mountaineers recently.
Re: [Match Thread] Mountaineers v New Zealand 'A'
Nice to see Tino Mawoyo in the side. Hope he takes this chance to show what his made off. I think Ian Nicholson should have played here coz SA might be too much for him.
CHRISTOPHER MPOFU: 'The problem was fear of failure. I used to think that when I played, if I didn't do well in one game, I would lose my place for the next one but now I've let go of that'

TMK Mawoyo, B Mlambo, JA Beukes*, MA Vermeulen, T Maruma, J Marumisa, B Katsande†, DT Tiripano, T Panyangara, S Mujaji, P Charumbira, S Musoso, N Mushangwe
Don't know why Hamilton Masakadza ia not playing here, given his woeful batting form and the window of opportunity between this match and his national team assignments

I guess it's because he's in transit to the RSA with the national teamConant wrote:Don't know why Hamilton Masakadza ia not playing here, given his woeful batting form and the window of opportunity between this match and his national team assignments

Correct - Zim side flew into Jo'burg this morning, so anyone in that squad wouldn't have been available for this match.Robin wrote:I guess it's because he's in transit to the RSA with the national teamConant wrote:Don't know why Hamilton Masakadza ia not playing here, given his woeful batting form and the window of opportunity between this match and his national team assignments
