Grant Flower and Alistair were having drinks just after he flew in from the UK, after a successful season for Essex, now in the SECOND division:

AC: Good to see you back, looking forward to working with you as our BATTING COACH. The Boys can use your experience.
GF: Yeah Ali, I need to really show them how its done.

AC: So do you have any YOUNG guys you are really excited to work with and see blossom into some really international players of Andy's calibre
GF: Well....urrrr, You seee.... ummmm, you know, errr (How shall I break this to Ali?)

AC: Cos I am really excited that you are joining me in the COACHING department!
GF: I was hoping to lead from the FRONT! ;)

AC: Thats good and your STATS will leave no one in doubt that you are capable of this.
GF: I have a vision for our batting. But I need to be responsible for setting up the batting order.

AC: Without vision a nation will perish…
GF: I need everyone at ZC to buy into this vision and to give me the go ahead to implement it and I will guarantee you it will work otherwise I would not have come back..

AC: Don't worry Granty I have been given full reign and my word is bond.
GF: I feel the influence I will have off the field will not be sufficient.

AC: We can get you footage of all the batsmen and you can analyze that.
GF: I am from the OLD school and would rather have first hand info that I can impart to the YOUNG guys.

AC: So what do you suggest OLD mate?
GF: Here's the PLAN, I reckon if I OPEN the batting…

AC: Excellent idea! I was always hoping you would come up with such a WISE decision and to take our batting FORWARD. I will TELL Ozias and the rest of the guys what you have planned and they will give you full backing. And I am sure the other Youngsters like Foster and Tino will thank you for bringing your VAST experience into the team.
GF: Yes I KNOW!

AC: Wait till I tell Heath, You know what, maybe he can also OPEN the bowling at the same time that he is the bowling coach…This is all starting to maker sense! I could also make a come back, and you can also talk to Andy, who will in turn talk to Henry and in no time we could have all the BOYS back in the team again and we will surely take Zimbabwe BACK to its former Glory...
[This is a fictitious conversation]

These quotes are from here http://bit.ly/bBozCx
Alistair Campbell is hoping that Grant Flower can play on until next year's World Cup

"I've been speaking to Grant Flower throughout the season, and he had a tremendous season with Essex," Campbell told Cricket365.
I think it will be a really good start for his coaching career if he can be at the front line with some of those youngsters and get to know how they react under pressure. Also just to be that wise old head on the field, which we seriously need at the moment.

(I had NOT seen this article!!!)

What did I tell you?! These guys have a plan although it is GF's plan!

He shouldn't play in the World Cup. It's selfish of him to take up another youngsters spot in the side.

Not a bad idea. Dave Houghton also played as a player-cum-coach. The younger guys can still learn a lot from him from the pavilion.

The youngsters have plenty of time to learn and earn their colours. But the better the perfomances presently, if Grant an bring that, will enhance our standing in the eyes of the cricket world considerably

international cricket is not about some sort of yout development course.

You need your BEST 11 players, ESPECIALLY a year out from the world cup.

At the moment Grant appears to be one of our best, if not our best batter.

If hes not in the top 6 bastmen, he wont get picked..simple. It will be up to a 'youngster' to prove that age is a burden to Grant and make the team. Everyone has to earn their spot regardless of age, especially near a world cup.

Everything in cricket is building to the WC. After that you can get rid of old players.....

besides:

A- form is temporary, class is permanent.

B- if your good enough...your young enough.

Yeah I agree that you need your best 11 on the field and its not a development course but what I am really against is the dual position as a batting coach. You can not serve two masters equally.
