He’s been a great player for us in the early to mid 2010’s but his stock fell dramatically when he gave up bowling.
Glad he’s retiring but I’m also a fan.

Yup, at the top of his game, he has been a brilliant servant. Thank you Chigs!

Well this brings down the curtain on the career of a great Zimbabwean cricketer, might not have been at his best the last few years but he was world class on his day with bat or ball.
I do feel his numbers could have been better and he left some runs and wickets out there, I really felt he could have been a proper world class all rounder batting possibly at No.4 where he had his most success and bowling every game.
The fact that he spent the last phase of his career batting at 7 or 8 and not bowling was disappointing.

Chigs has basically been the team mascot the last few years. An occasional swing of the bat and no bowling at all. He should have been forced to open once he gave up bowling instead of hiding behind Chari, Kasuza, etc.

After best players left on 2004, Tailor,Taibu,Chigumbura used to give fight with us. He is Very popular in BD. In a domestic match, Chigu scored 41 runs in an over. Best of luck for the future.

Chigumbura has been a real servant of the game, sort of like a Zim version of Shane Watson. Could have been an awesome fast bowling allrounder if not for injury, reinvented himself as more of a specialist batsman.
100+ ODI wickets at 42, 4000 ODI runs at 25 including back to back centuries against Pakistan and India - so no average boosters against Papua New Guinea.
Played match winning knocks, the one that comes to mind first is in the 2014 win against Australia.
In those dark days in the mid-00s he was one of about three players who didn't look completely hopeless at international level. I hope we remember him as a very good player, because at his best he was destructive.

Did Elton retire on his own accord or did he get tapped?
I seem to recall an article a few weeks ago talking about his comeback and being in the best mental place in years etc
Now he's retired.
I'd love to think Hamilton has made the hard call here (meaning Chamu and Maruma could be next) but I doubt it. Maybe he's been offered a role

Back in the day when all was destruction we could say, 'chigs might still make a few'. He was an awful captain, but otherwise one of our top 3 for quite a while. Weak domestically, but as has been said, one of the very few from that era who had the capacity to score against quality bowling. Farewell Chigs.
