VETERAN professional golfer Tim Price has died.
The Harare golfer, the elder brother of former world number one Nick Price, died in the capital yesterday morning.
Tim had been unwell for sometime, suffering from cancer, and even went to South Africa for treatment. He will sadly be missed by a local golfing family where he was very prominent member.
Meanwhile Day Muyambo won the NetOne One Golf third and final edition at Borrowdale Brooke Country Club yesterday.
But it was Tongo Charamba who emerged as this year’s overall winner of the NetOne series. Muyambo came into this tournament as an underdog but turned on the style in the first two rounds of the series and held onto the lead until the end of the tourney yesterday.
Muyambo, a former Zimbabwe Professional Golfers Association president, carded steady rounds of 68, 71 and 68 to finish on nine-under par after an aggregate total of 207. Charamba recovered from a poor second round to shoot 70, 73 and 69 for a four-under par total.
Charamba, known in golf circles as TC, was crowned the overall NetOne series champion after having won the Bulawayo tour this month. Mark Cayuex had won the first NetOne series at the Leopard Rock in Nyanga in September but was involved in serious car crash to miss the other two editions. Phillip Tshuma was third at Borrowdale Brooke. Mike Curtis, who is based in South Africa, Farai Chitengwa who resides in Tanzania and Robson Saurombe were fourth.
The trio finished the two day 54-holes on two-under-par. Meanwhile Ruwa Country Club will tomorrow hold a Christ Embassy church fund-raising golf event.
