“It is something I am considering at the moment,” said Ervine. “It has been discussed before and I am weighing the pros and cons just like anybody would do before taking up any job. A lot of progress has been made both on and off the field. The people here have done a lot of work in improving both the game in the country and the performance of the national team.”
Having watched Zimbabwe’s One-Day-International series against South Africa recently, Ervine is pleased with the improved show by the national team.
He said that he had been offered a two year contract at county side Hampshire, but playing for Zimbabwe was tempting.
Unlike the last time when he played in the 20-over tournament only, Ervine will this time around feature in the longer versions of the game.
He said he will leave the country after this tournament, but would return early next year to continue playing for Mountaineers. By then, he said, he would have made up his mind on whether to play for the national team or Hampshire.
With glaring frailties in the seaming department, Ervine’s return would benefit Zimbabwe immensely.

Interesting. Would be fantastic if the bloke could return, but i think it's unlikely. He'll go down the same route as Anthony Ireland I'm positive, and i doubt we'll ever see him in Zimbabwean colours again :/

Would you play cricket merely because 'your friends' play for the same team? You do not give the man enough credit: surely in this professional era there are more important considerations to make?

And which friends exactly and when were they made, for by the time Brendan Taylor, Malcom Waller, Eddie Rainsford, at al entered international cricket Sean Ervine was out of it; and to my knowledge there's only one player in that team who attended the same school as Sean.

Do you really think I could find comfort in the fact that one of the teams you happened to mention as a better place is one I support and hence ignore the prejudicial comments you habitually make without challenge?

Strangely why would you even contrive to decide which team a player would have been better served paying for, when they are all fighting towards the same goal - producing balanced clubs and competitive cricket - unless you had a particular dislike for the said team (indeed, it seems here any team would have a better option than the Mountaineers!!)?

I have no idea how this topic has ended up down this path. I guess some people's own racial prejudices come out in their criticism of other forumites.
