Williams out injured again, Chakabva in for Bangla Tour

Batsman Sean Williams has been dropped from Zimbabwe’s upcoming tour of Bangladesh because of a hamstring injury.

The 24-year-old Williams strained his right hamstring tendon during practice with the Matabeleland Tuskers in Zimbabwe’s domestic Twenty20 championship. He been replaced in the 15-man squad by Regis Chakabva.

A 23-year-old wicketkeeper and batsman, Chakabva has played just one one-day international for Zimbabwe against Kenya in 2008.
The guy must be holding the world record by a distance now, of number of matches missed due to injuries. Pity, he had very good record in Bangladesh. The selectors wanted two Sean Williamses, they didn't even get one in the end.

Great opportunity for Chakabva to showcase his talent, a berth well deserved, on current form.

Oh man !
This boy needs to keep himself fit. He's so injury prone.
However ;) This does give us a chance to test out Regis. I've heard a lot about this young man and i'd love to see him tear into the Bangladeshi bowlers :D

Sean Williams is Zimbabwe's version of Dion Nash. Every time Dion Nash toured with New Zealand he got injured, I have no idea why they kept selecting him.

The ones who will succeed in Bangladesh are the ones that can adapt to slow pitches and work their runs all round the wicket, ie Williams, Chigumbura. In that sense he was our most valuable batsman. Huge blow this, the boy is jinxed

Because he was a good bowler? Regardless of players fitness, they should be picked when they can.

The comparison between Sean Williams and Dion Nash is based on their fitness records, not playing styles.

Sean Williams is a huge miss !

In my opinion, Zimbabwe could have sent Forster Mutizwa or Charles Coventry in front of Regis Chakabva.

I think, Mutizwa successfully played 8 of his 9 ODI's against Kenya. It was a good start of an ODI career of a promising batsman. He was tried only once against Bangladesh. He failed in that match. As a result he is dropped ! That's unbelievable ! He should have given more chance.

Mutizwa's domestic record is much much better than Chakabva's.

For Coventry, I would say he hasn't been on his best of form. But he is an experienced contender and his big hitting will be quite handy for Zimbabwe...

Zimbabwe could have taken a much more intelligent decision by sending Mutizwa in particular ahead of Chakabva.

But however best of luck to Chakabva :)

I don't think Chakabva is really anything more than a solid domestic player.

Seems he just proved that notion wrong
