Taibu lands in legal wrangles again

Post by CrimsonAvenger »

FORMER Zimbabwe cricket captain Tatenda Taibu could have his property attached and auctioned off after Econet Wireless launched a court bid to recover a US$1,400 debt.

The wicket keeper ran the huge mobile phone bill last year and has ignored court summons, Econet said in papers filed at the High Court on Wednesday.

A default judgment was issued against Taibu my magistrate Tayengwa Chibanda on October 29 after he failed to respond to summons served on June 22.

Now Econet has filed papers for a warrant of execution against Taibu, who lives on Richwell Avenue in Harare’s Meryk Park.
Taibu was this week named in the Zimbabwe team to play five One Day Internationals in Bangladesh from December 1-12 as part of preparations for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011.

Ooh, little bit racist that.

He has an unpaid phone bill. Hardly makes him a bad person.

First: I don't agree with eugene's assertion, Taibu's generally held to be a genuinely nice guy by most of the people who've spoken about him. We also don't know why his phonebill has ended up in court - he may well have a genuine dispute with Econet that's not covered in the article. Zimbabwe papers are hardly paragons of balanced reporting, and from what I understand Zimbabwean companies don't tend to mess around with unpaid bill. With that said:

How? It's a comment specifically against Taibu. Or is it automatically racist for someone of colour A to say anything critical of someone of colour B?

It's not his first tangle with the courts, and the negative impressions from such things tend to mount up, regardless of if there's anything behind them. That said, he was fully cleared in his last court appearance, and this one hasn't reached an outcome yet. People should wait and see what happens before passing judgement.

Racist, racist, racist

Why the sudden accusations of racism every other day ?

It's BORING and STUPID and INSULTING

All the hard work put into this forum by maehara and brmtaylor is going to the wall thanks to the constant sniping and stupidity of some, i repeat some, posters

Personally i can't be doing with this any more, it's supposed to be FUN, discussing Zim cricket with like minded supporters and sharing something regardless of personal backgrounds

Maybe i'll drop by every now and again to see if this idiocy stops, otherwise, no thanks

Absolutely. He was the role model every Zimbabwean kid would have looked up to when he first came on the scene, with such wonderful qualities, despite the debacles at the family front. He would not have changed much from that image, but at some stage, he might have gotten fed up with the system, and might have done a little thing here or there in the heat of the moment, not conforming to proper conscience. But unfortunately, all that becomes baggage.

In this case, these people might be after Taibu just to get some publicity at his cost if not anything else. On hindsight, I must not have even posted this news bit.

Well, that has been the bane, and It gets painful indeed for those who have witnessed the constructive days of ZCF...

I was only joking. I guess I should have added 'lol' at the end or something. Even if I weren't joking I am not sure how this was a racist comment.

Let's hope Taibu starts making the news again for his cricketing exploits. He doesn't seem quite the player he used to be, at least from a batting standpoint.

So was I, I was parodying the way people call racism at the drop of the hat on this forum as there have been some rather odd claims of racism. This is hardly BNP central. Sorry if that wound Train Driver up, but I most certainly did not mean it as a serious accusation. No one could possibly take your comment as racist.

Indeed my comment, "Ooh, little bit racist that" was a direct quote from David Brent in the Xmas Special of The Office (when the guy refers to Nelson Mandela as a convicted terrorist after Brent tells them all his dog is called Nelson, after Mandela).

Sorry !!!!!
