Cricinfo article is saying the COVID has damanged his lungs which is why he will need 3-6 months to recover.

KJ is an elite athlete, young, and in great shape and he still got a moderately severe case of the disease. This should be a warning to us all to be thankful to be alive.

I think covid got his lungs as I am unaware that malaria affects the lungs although I am not a doctor. But yeah the covid damage may have been more severe because his immune system was more compromised from the other two diseases.
