WC: ZIM vs AUS - Game Plan
Posted: Tue Jan 18, 2011 11:44 am
The Australian squad for the World Cup has been announced and not surprisingly they have gone all out pace (the fast firemen). No doubt conditions in the subcontinent suit spin rather than pace, and the pace (and bounce) of the wickets generally tends to be much slower than elsewhere - these are all positives from a Zim point of view but given the quality (lets leave out the form!) of the Australian pacemen and our batting "volatility" I will be very worried if Aus manages to rattle us quickly this could potentially set the tone for rest of the tourney
Any specific ploys for this match?
Its a batting track! A few things I have managed to pick out on Cricinfo http://bit.ly/ehUDL2 regarding the ground.
And hopefully we will get to see skipper like this again - after all, his highest score is against Aus!

Its a batting track! A few things I have managed to pick out on Cricinfo http://bit.ly/ehUDL2 regarding the ground.
- TOSS: Unlike some grounds where a toss win almost guarantees a match win, the toss hasn't really been a deciding factor on how the game turns out, you can lose the toss and still win the game. That said, it is a ground where most chasing teams win, so batting in the second innings is ideal.
- BATTING: Average run-rate is just over 5 runs per over so A par score is around the 260 - 280s mark, chasing over 300 will be very difficult - the 300 mark has been crossed 3 times and chased down twice, once in a Pakistan-India match so that doesn't count! average partnership is just over 30.
- BOWLING Spoils have been evenly shared between fast and slow bowlers, the former with the better strike rate (as expected)
And hopefully we will get to see skipper like this again - after all, his highest score is against Aus!
