Okay my take on the theory is that a player reaches a plateau where no matter how much effort, talent, will, spot fixing etc. He cannot pass that stage hopefully leading to his axing. They may hav a decent innings here or there on the domestic scene but not good enough. Some reach that ceiling at a young age others retire before. Stewart reached his ceiling, i think coventary has as well. The ceiling must not be confused with just being out of form eg Masakadza and elton. Who else has reached the glass ceiling?

Of the current squad I think these players are as good now as they will ever be.

I am unsure about Duffin as I haven't seen him play in a long time.

I think Chigumbura, Utseya, Cremer, Ervine, Mpofu, Panyangara, and S Masakadza still have potential for improvement.

I don't necessarily think the players who have reached their glass ceiling should be dropped - Ray Price is one of our best performers and couldn't really be much better anyway. I think we have to accept that players like Taylor and Coventry are always going to be inconsistent - particularly Coventry. I think many of us hoped Taylor would become as reliable as Andy Flower -I don't see that happening. He is probably more at the level of Grant Flower.

Matsi is a gritty, dashing, determined batsman and a decent bowler.

He could be a test all rounder when we return.

Yeah at least if u are a constant performer on the plateau then no need 2 axe but when u have hit the ceiling and u goin down then its bye bye. That brings an important role for the coaches to realise someone has reached his ceiling i think Ponting has reached his ceiling i don't see him rejuvenating like sachin did.

Of the players who graduated into the national team post rebe,l Sean Williams, I think, has played the least matches. Thus he whould improve as he plays more (hopefully if he can keep away from injuries). Brandan Taylor should as well, most certainly on his avarage. Taylor as well as with Price, Taibu and Masakadza, those are the players we should keep away from the A team games and warm ups as we have seen just about everything they have to offer.

Dont know about Elton. Do you know in 2005 just before his stress fracture he was bowling at 145km\hr.Tragic.

Don't worry about chitara ATM he's bowling against what is essentially all of the franchises b sides, I wouldnt expect any less. When the squad plays again and he still does it. Bring him in.


Althouh I think mpofu has been admirable and is the best of the available crop of fast bowlers. Anthony Ireland or perhaps Scott Brant
is the best pace bowler we have that's still playing active Cricket but we lost them
