How come Namibia doesn't have a quota but Zim/SA have?

Post by franco vazquez »

Namibia is a black majority country but they don't have any quotas in their team and their team is 99% white but the question is that why they dont have but SA and Zim (which is leading them to struggle)?

Zim doesn’t have a quota. That is simply not true. It hasn’t been true for years. Who was the last white player who wasn’t selected because of color? We don’t even Have enough white players in the system to make a team

Don't think you can say that with certainty Taps. ZC definitely has something in place and there have definitely been instances in the past where race has been at the forefront when it comes to team selection, or team issues.

There is most likely a quota at age group level but I wouldn't say it is a fixed number like SA

I actually think if you are white it works in your favour these days because you stand out. Think about it. How many seasons did Nyauchi have to play to get picked? On the other hand people are already asking about Odendaal and Evans. Masuku has been bowling well for years.

Another example is Liam Roche. The truth is that guy was nowhere near national team standard but he was given a chance. How many years has Mufudza been bowling in the system?

Back in the day a young black talent was automatically picked. These days I think it’s the other way round simply because they aren’t enough white guys in the system. Same case with Akram. He just stands out. It’s human nature

Burl has also had a bad start. Almost as bad as Maruma’s but he will be given many more chances. Even I’m saying let’s give him more chances as calls for him to get dropped get louder.

My honest theory is that the people in charge only care about the cash. Race ain’t got nothing to do with it. They treat everybody just as bad. It’s just that you also tend to find the people who are aware of their rights and want to stand up for them also usually belong to a specific race.

The mind sees pattern that it wants to believe. It is true for both sides of the argument. As long as we don't know what happens behind the closed doors, it is their speculation vs ours. It does not matter whose argument is more logical, but what matters is what happens behind the closed doors. So, no point speculating...

Namibia was in good shape around 2002-03 phase, team had some good performers in form of Burger, Kotze brothers. A pacer named Snyman bowled some good spells against the qulity sides in that 2003 World Cup.

I think there is no national team colour quota....because there doesnt need to be.

If there was more in thesystem youd probably see it.

There were some questionable selection decisions a couple of years ago when the team got to 5 whites +Raza. I vaguely recall everyone thinking they didnt want to go further than that because at the time there was a case for 6+raza selection wise but Maruma or someone got the nod.

And if you look at it from one step back, the whites are pushed away long before they even get close to selection. Think about how much white talent is lost overseas, and then the rung below those guys we have all forgotten about.

Remember, nick Welch didnt make the under 19s national side

So did Kenya back then and South Africa. African cricket has declined since then. There were two good teams and two strong associate level. Now there is one good team, although on shaky ground (SA) and one strong associate level team in Zimbabwe.

Although teams like Uganda and Nigeria are playing now which may be good for the future.
