Re: mark vermuelen fired
Ah damn.
He's always had trouble keeping his emotions in check but I wonder just how bad that Irfan Pathan bouncer affected him medically - it was a very nasty blow.
I guess this is the end of the line for Vermeulen, it's hard to see another franchise taking a gamble on him. And to think just 2 years ago he was about 8 runs short of the fairy tale... he really has his back against the wall now. If he's ready for one last crack at glory he should go back to Old Hararians and bat like he's never batted before. Average over a hundred for the remainder of the season and hope that against all the odds Alistair Campbell think it's worth having someone with a Test century in the team come the first Test against Bangladesh. Vermeulen sadly has no other options.

I think it might be time to give up on Vermeulen unfortunately. He is far too unstable for international cricket - we can't have him embarrasing Zimbabwean cricket on the international stage by destroying dressing rooms, running of with stumps, or burning down pavilions.

Mark has put cricket behind him and is now trying his luck as a possibly professional golfer.

Re: mark vermuelen fired
Those things happened because of his medical state. He was not on medication that time. He has been fairly tolerable since return. I am eager to know the authenticity of this report. Mountaineers have been known to be biased. If they can kick out their "own"(i cant help if i sound racist) Taibu's and Matsi's then Mark is no big deal.eugene wrote:we can't have him embarrasing Zimbabwean cricket on the international stage by destroying dressing rooms, running of with stumps, or burning down pavilions.
As per the reference it's the version of a Mountee member. He didnt do anything wrong onfield. Even it's not clear what he did offfield. I will still give Mark benefit of my doubt and wish him all the very best for a future place in test cricket.According to Mountaineers chief executive officer Philip Senzani, Vermeulen checked video replays on both occasions and went mad when he viewed his second innings dismissal after discovering that he should not have been dismissed

Re: mark vermuelen fired
I am not sure whether Vermuelen was fired or whether he quit after demonstrating against not recieving pay for three months during the logan cup match against the eagles. He told some of the young eagles players as he walked off that he hope Zim cricket would treat them better than they had treated him. He also told them he was retiring
Re: mark vermuelen fired
a sad loss to zim cricket at best he did entertain off the field .if the mountaineers admin [fat phil} had paid him there would not be a problem.a cricketer badly treated .may you enjoy your golf.
Re: mark vermuelen fired
He will find golf even more frustrating than cricket.

He will find golf frustrating but at least he will get paid if he performs something which was lacking when he played for fat phil's mountaineers.
Re: mark vermuelen fired
Sad day for me.
Not surprised, everyone saw it coming.
But he was my favourite zimbabwean cricketer of all time.
he kept it interesting.
At his peak around 2003 he could well have been our best non-flower batsman.
The only player in the country still playing who has got a test century vs a test team that WASNT Bangladesh (unless Hamilton did?).
It was a time he was averaging around 33 in tests which i believe would put him on the same level as Brendan Taylor, if he could only keep it up.
He ripped apart Australia A when we played them.
It all went downhill after Glenn Mcgrath split his head open- 2nd time it happened to him.
And above all....ill never forget his chimp outs, willing to fight....
He hated getting LBWed.
And regardlss of the damage done- you gotta be impressed at his style.
Im sure everyone at one stage wishes they could burn down a former workplace- this guy did it!!
