HARARE - After making an impression during the just-ended MetBank Pro40 Championship, talented bowler, Tafadzwa Kamungozi, says fighting for a place in Zimbabwe’s Test team later this year is his priority.

The Southern Rocks cricketer believes if he can improve on his bowling, he can make the cut for the squad that will play Pakistan in August, marking a return to that version of the game after six years in the sidelines.

“I will be working on my bowling to become a longer-version bowler as well, so I can make it into the Test squad. If I work hard I think I can get there,” the 23-year-old, who has been involved in international cricket for four years, said.

Originally, an all-rounder, he said he would now focus solely on bowling.

“When I started I was an all-rounder, but now I concentrate more on my bowling, so it has kind of slipped away. But it’s coming back now,” he said in an interview from Harare.

The in-form Kamungozi, last weekend played a key role as Southern Rocks claimed their first major trophy, the MetBank Pro40 Championship. The franchise side beat Mid-West Rhinos by eight wickets with Kamungozi taking three wickets as Rhinos’ middle order collapsed.

His aim to make the Test cricket side follows the team’s anticipated return to that version of the game.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) last week confirmed the will tour Zimbabwe in August for a number of Test and One Day Internationals. PCB said in a statement it would play three ODIs and two Test matches in games that are likely to be played in Harare and Bulawayo.

Zimbabwe, which ended up without a win against the top nations but managed two against Ireland and Kenya in the 2011 World Cup, have not played a Test match since early 2006 when Zimbabwe Cricket voluntarily suspended its Test status.

International Cricket Council granted them the status in 1992.

Zimbabwe is, at a date yet to be set, likely to tour Bangladesh in August this year to play a Test match.

I wasn't impressed with him when i last saw him bowl during the 2006 ICC Champions Trophy...
But I admire the lads determination. It's been five years too, so he may well have improved.
Good luck to him...but in all honesty, I don't think he'll be the player he thinks he'll be..
