Who's the brightest prospect...

Not opened a thread for half a year

Right, I'd like to know who you guys think are the brightest prospects for our cricketing future, both batting and bowling.
You can choose 3 batters, three spinners, and three fast bowlers. (Younger cricketers, i.e not the guys who have been playing for a long perioid of time).

So here are my top nine future stars:

Batting:
Malcolm Waller: has had another great first class season, and should be solidly in the Zimbabwe A side.

PJ Moor: I know he's stil very young, and hasn't set the first class circuit alight, but I've personally seen him play, and of what i saw i was very impressed. He hits the ball very hard and has great hands. Give him four/five years, and he'll be a great option for test cricket.

Stephen Marrilliar: Although he's not particularly young, he's still a great prospect for opening the batting. He's got the ability to stay in and grind down the opposition, scoring runs freely in the process. He's had a very good first class season, one to look out for.

Spinners:
I'm not too sure, Mushangwe is a great legspinning prospect, but I'm not 100% up to date with our young spinners. Perhaps you guys could help me out there.

Fast Bowlers:
Tendai Chitara:Fast, tall, fit, and still only 19. Enough said. What a star he's going to be.

Kyle Jarvis: Again, tall, young, fit, fast, and handsome. Great prospect to partner Chris Mpofu in the long run for sure. Slightly quicker than Chitara (able to bowl 90mph), but needs to keep himself fit.

Ian Nicholson: again, a very good prospect. Has the ability to swing the ball away at pace, and generally bowls full, something the others bowlers can take note of.

Malcolm Waller definately deserve at least some 'A' team recognition for his efforts this last season.

Kyle Jarvis is Zimbabwe's own Brett Lee.

Maybe Nathan Waller could be thrown into the mix, batting wise. Still very raw, but he's only 19 so in a few years with some more games under his belt he could be a good prospect. Only played one First Class match, representing Zimbabwe XI vs Netherlands so the selectors must see something in him as well.

Fast bowlers... Brian Vitori? He's young but he's also been on the circuit for a long time, he debuted as a 15 year old in the infamous Faithwear series of 2005-06. This season he appears to have taken his game to the next level. Just a quick look at his stats... 25 wickets in the Logan Cup with a best of 6/55 and 9 wickets in the Pro40 series with a best of 5/26. He's still a tier below the likes of Chatara, Meth and Nicolson who are on the fringe of the national team and led the Logan Cup bowling stats - but Vitori is barely 21 and he's a left armer so his development over the coming years will be interesting to watch.

Gerald Aliseni was supposed to be very quick; he used to post at ZCF so perhaps he can drop by and tell us if that's still the case ;) He seems to have dropped off the scene though. Probably Shingi Masakadza is the most promising pacer right now but far too expensive, in my opinion, to be a realistic prospect in the short term. We can't afford to play guys that consistently go at 10 an over. But after a few years in the Zimbabwe A team sprinkled with a few ODI's here and there I think he's going to turn into something special. He looks pretty lively when he's bowling back of a length around 140km, he's the only quick who seems capable of it. He needs to tighten up his control (from memory he bowls too full, too regularly), not sure if it's an action problem or the pressure of international cricket - something that Streak will need to work closely with him on.

Spinners... there were a few promising guys a couple of years ago. The one that springs to mind is Brighton Mugochi who unfortunately also seems to have disappeared. He was also a left arm orthodox bowler with a great economy rate which, depending on how many more years Price wants to play for, is something that would be nice to have. And I agree with you about Mushangwe, to have the figures he has at his age is very impressive - and I think he will only get better. I haven't seen a lot of him, only a few overs from the Stanbic games... maybe someone else knows, does he turn the ball a great deal?

Natsai Mushangwe is very SPECIAL. Will tell you why in my next post.

In the mean time may I venture a few names?

Kevin Kasuza, star of the U19 Zim tour to South Africa. Got 92 in his first class debut for Mountaineers a few weeks later.

Roy Kaia, his teammate in the U19s and all-rounder for Masvingo side Southern Rocks.

And while on the subject of spinners – Tino Mutombodzi, prodigious wickettaker for Mashonaland Eagles.

I quite liked the look of wicketkeeper batsman Dean Mazhawidza in the 2010 World Cup as well, but presumably he’s still working his way up the Mashonaland Eagles ranks.

And Gary Ballance

One man - Matsi :D

Only kidding.

I am not sure if his time has come and gone but I really do rate Mutizwa and wonder what he needs to do to get a run in the team. Malcolm Waller is a real prospect.

In fast bowlers we have an embarrasment of riches coming through. I agree with all three picks but I really want to go for Tenda Chatara. Kyle has been spazzed out all season but Chatara has gone from strength to strength. He seems the one for the team.

bowlers Chattara,Kamungozi...Has anyone heard anything about next season re who is moving franchises? I hear Marillier has been in talks with both Rhinos and Eagles,Ervine with Eagles and Rhinos,Masakadza with Rocks and Maruma with Eagles.
