So i was driving through the blue mountains on the edge of western sydney. Nice drive, but got a bit boring.

i had my dashboard computer on and my mind was drifting towards all things zimbabwean cricket, the good years, the bad years, the rebels, Gus Mackay etc...all the main things in regards to ZC.

It occured to me that of the white players, only 1 player has stayed true to the game in this time, throughout the hardships.

Graeme Cremer (apparently hes white).

Lets look at the others-
Taylor- went away twice but came back
ervine- drifted somewhere but came back
williams- went the SA route but returned
Lamb-county
Coventry- went away at one point
meth- just returned
nicolson-just returned
price- went away and came back
rebels x 15
jarvis- too young to be affected
Duffin- went then came back

Butterworth ???? (hes not a national player though)

Only Cremer by my recollection has never deviated from the scene.

I find this an interesting overlooked tidbtit.

Vermuelen? He went and came back. It was also easier for the whites to just up and go i am sure a lot of black tried/ would have loved 2go as well.

I would say it is because most white Zimbabweans have links overseas and the resources available to flee Zimbabwe. Don't forget we lost just as many black players over the same period - even Matsi left at one point.

Cremer went away with me to the Highveld Lions academy but headed back home after the three month period was over to play for Southerners I think.

Rather like some of the rambling posts we get here.

No one wanted Matsi so he had to come back to Zimbabwe where still no one is interested in him. He is almost a man without a country.
