I may be in the minority here but I would rather agree with Kriterion. I find it hard to understand T20I status given to the likes of Vietnam or Madagascar just because they can assemble a team to play cricket. There has to be some gatekeeping in terms of quality.
We can all agree to disagree but that's my viewpoint and I would say we should respect each other's view point.
Asian Games matches played in a 50m stadium and the likes of Nepal bashing around Mongolia is a mockery of international cricket. So my personal opinion is to have some gatekeeping involved.

Ya I do, respectfully, strongly disagree Sam.
'Gatekeeping', 'Status', etc - it's all dated imperialist bollocks. No other global-level sport has such pointless concepts as 'status'.

If Madagascar were to play Vietnam in a T20, it would be a T20 between 2 nations. Surely that's the definition of a T20I!!

Exactly, just look at football, there is an international side called San Marino which is basically just 11 guys they have picked from the street who can kick a ball. Every one of their games is still an International fixture even when they lose 11-0secretzimbo wrote: ↑Fri Mar 15, 2024 6:42 pmYa I do, respectfully, strongly disagree Sam.

Just seen the Uganda squad and it’s basically a full side except Ali Shah.
Cosmas Kyewuta is back from South Africa, glad he is still playing for Uganda, he is class.
No chance we are beating that Uganda side, at least we have an easier group to try and fight for a medal in the knockouts

How about creating a new status for the top 30-40 T20 nations, then? Perhaps something like ET20 for Elite T20 or perhaps T20-1.secretzimbo wrote: ↑Fri Mar 15, 2024 6:42 pmYa I do, respectfully, strongly disagree Sam.

Just throwing out an idea. That way Vietnam can still have T20I status.

I don't see any other sport doing this. In football you can be a powerhouse like Spain. You still go and play the mighty San Marino if they're in your group. I don't see why cricket needs to have tiers when these are all international teams!

Scrap ‘status’. Preferably for all formats.
