Kenyon Ziehl what are you thinking!

From zimcricket.org:
“The potential is there in the team and they need competitive matches for that potential to be realised. Although he didn’t get a big score, Cephas played well and supported Hamilton which is what partnerships are all about.

“Cephas was in the team on merit. He did very well in the domestic league where he was hitting guys all over the place.”
I don't think he played well at all! He has no concept of shot selection (other than the pull shot) and didn't support Masakadza at all. I remember one match where Zhuwawo was swinging and missing at everything, when all he should have been trying to do was give the single so Masakadza could get the strike.

How Ziehl could think otherwise is incredible

Because he's been told to say that, perhaps? We all know politics plays a role in selection - as a selector, Ziehl has to justify anyone's place in the side, even if they've been placed there over his head. He can't exactly turn round and say "he sucks, but then we didn't want him anyway" - not if he wants to keep his job, anyway.

That said, I personally wouldn't want to be a selector unless my decisions carried the authority of God. There's no point in the role if people on the administrative side are going to overrule you.

Question

1) What calibre of bowlers was he facing domestically? He obviously is not reffering to the logan cup/Fairwear!! He hasnt passed 50 yet

2.) Two consecutive ducks against canada ( One of the worst associates) is not exactly world beating is it!!

3.) What was wrong with people like kasteni/Mutizwa. If your gonna try people out pick these guys. At least they have a few games behind them and some first class hundreds. Mutizwa can score very fast as can kasteni when the mood so takes him

4.) Hope they arent thinking of playing him against sri lanka. Vusi must come back into the side.

obviously he has a semblance of talent. Let the Boy play domestic cricket for a bit before all this palavah

Fair call. You'd think if he was trying to toe the party line he would at least say something believable though. To say "he has a very good attitude" or "we appreciate his search for runs and his positive, attacking mindset" would surely be more suitable than "Cephas played well", which anyone that watched the matches would have no hesitation in disagreeing with!

It could have been the Vigne Cup (which would be downright embarrassing if he got promoted from Old Malvernians straight into the national team :() but I'm guessing it was Faithwear because he had a strike rate of 110 or so. Hell, I don't think he even got picked for the Logan Cup last season.

It was a gutsy move to play Zhuwawo, it was always going to be a 50/50. I guess you win some you lose some. I'm sure there was an example from the late 90's of a player who was brought from nowhere into the Test team and did well... it might have even been Ray Price? If that is correct, that is one move that certainly paid off.

And Zhuwawo is still young, a few more years in the domestic league (and a lot of coaching) and who knows, he could become something. :)
