Player salaries

...this just makes me admire these guys more, and puts some things into perspective - those that are in it and even more so those who are on the fringes are playing for the love of the game, rather than money, that's for sure.
How much are the fat cats earning with respect to the players?

Not surprising. I generally assume they play for free these days. This is why criticising Sean Ervine and others for not coming back is somewhat unfair. Even a semi-pro club cricket contract in England would pay more.

I would imagine the paltry salaries make those $500 man of the match checks highly coveted.

thats a real shame . not for the zimbabwe but for the ICC ..... The richer gets richer and richer like BCCI and poor gets poorer and poorer ....SAlute to those zimbabwe players who play for the of the game not for the money .

If there was a program setup so that you could publicly sponsor a player by donating money that would directly assist the players standard of living and allow them to buy new equipment etc, I would be happy to assist. Considering the entertainment the players provide to us the spectators, I wouldn't consider it as charity but an investment in a sport I love. There are various sports clubs here in Australia that allow you to sponsor players by making donations over the internet in exchange for photographs with the players, spending some time training with the players, recognition on the players profile of sponsorship, autographed clothing and equipment etc. While it is aimed at business sponsorship, it could just as easily be adjusted for personal donations/sponsorship. If you think about the top 25 players of so in Zimbabwe cricket, it wouldn't take that many people even only donating small amounts of money both domestically and overseas to help the players out by making lives a little more comfortable and to keep young zimbabwean cricketers from either defecting to England or giving the game away completely. I guess the bigger issue would be corrupt officials but if it could be run independently it would be worth looking at.
