Wicket keepers
Wicket keepers
With the retirement of Tatenda Taibu, which wicket keeper is a suitable replacement. Brendan Taylor with the burden of the captancy doesnt look the best choice. Foster Mutizwa has failed to impress, batting wise at international level. Regis Chakabva looks undercooked. Zim Cricket is cash strapped to lure Ricky Wessels who is South African and could qualify given the time he has spent playing in Zim.
Success is a journey, not a destination
Re: Wicket keepers
Wessels should be the focus. He is easily in our top 7 batsman and I assume his keeping is good.
But zim cricket don't think like that. They don't approach their own let alone a convert.
And dare I say it- they might think its a bad look on them importing a white to the team from another nation.

Re: Wicket keepers
Wessels should indeed be the focus. I wonder if Craig Ervine could keep? But then I bet he is an awesome bowler too. But then maybe he is our version of Jonty Rhodes in the field?

No chance of Wessels playing. He wouldn't be qualified for a while, and just look how long it took Raza to finally become available. Above all though, he wouldn't throw away his country contract with Notts, to play for Zim.

Re: Wicket keepers
I really wish Chopper would stand up for himself this would have been his opportunity to get back into the team as a keeper who can bat a little. The job will most likely go to Regis on the work he has put in but there is a host of keeping talent around to keep him on his toes .

I think Regis will get 1st look and Mutizwa will be after him if he can't achieve anything. Taylor may get the job in the T20s though.

Re: Wicket keepers
I watched both Chakabva & Mutambani kip and bat during the tri-series. And i shud say mutabani lukd mo comfortable with the gloves as compared 2 chakabva who made a lot of errors and lakd a lot of runs. With the bat Mutambani started off as if he was ervine but afta about 10 balls he looked calm and batted bettter than i expcted. i was impressed. i wudnt be comfortable wit Chakabva in the national squad. its a recipe 4 disaster. i wud rather have Taylor wuth the gloves unless if u fil Kasteni shud called back 4m Australia & knowing ZC thats highly unlikely. I honestly dnt want eitha Cakabva or Mutizwa in the National squad, the suck!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Wicket keepers
T20s: Taylor should keep period.
ODIs: BT can keep but if there is need Forster should come in. No Chakabva in this form PLEASE.
Test: Chakabva is promising with the bat but sloppy with the gloves. I honestly don't think Regis is better than Forster with the bat, but after his show in Aotteroa he deserves a few more games

Taylor should keep in all formats. Chakabva and Mutizwa are not as good behind the stumps and are questionable selections anyway.

Re: Wicket keepers
It's a tough one. I agree with you, but I don't think Zimbabwe can afford to do anything which could come at the expense of Taylor's batting. I trust the team management to make the right decision here - and the right decision could be to give him the gloves. It'll be interesting to see what happens. One thing is for sure, he would be in the company of some elite allrounders if he did take the gloves in all formats. Flower and Gilchrist are a few that come to mind who also captained. And while he's not at that level yet, he's still only 26.eugene wrote:Taylor should keep in all formats. Chakabva and Mutizwa are not as good behind the stumps and are questionable selections anyway.

It is worth mentioning though that I think Chakabva is a dead certainty to get selected in the next Test, given his innings in NZ. So I think he'll be taking the gloves in the near future in Tests.
