[Results] ZCF Awards 2008: Best Performance

Post by maehara »

The nominations for Best Performance were:

Ray Price 2/6 & Chris Mpofu 1/6 (Al Barakah Cup 3rd Place Playoff)
Regis Chakabva 71* (MTN Championship)
Hamilton Masakadza 54 & 2/10 (MTN Championship)
Elton Chigumbura 5/13 (Standard Bank Pro20)
Tawanda Mupariwa 4/39 (3rd ODI v Sri Lanka)
Tatenda Taibu 106 (MTN Championship)

...and for this award, we have a tie, in which case the award is shared between the two nominees with the most votes. Each with 33% of votes cast, we have Ray Price & Chris Mpofu for their combined record-breaking spell in the Al Barakah Cup 3rd Place Playoff, and Regis Chakabva for his match-winning knock against Cape Cobras in the MTN Domestic Championship.

Price and Mpofu produced a combined 3/12 in 8 overs, each conceding a record-tying low economy rate in T20 internationals of 1.5 runs per over (the record having been set in the previous match by Prosper Utseya - Price and Mpofu both went one better by taking wickets as well). The match may have been against an Associate side, but their performance was still damned impressive and should be a record that stands for some time.

Chakabva produced a match winning performance against Cape Cobras in a match where Chevrons' other batsmen failed to back up the good work done by the bowlers - in itself it was an impressive knock, made even better by Chakabva not being one of the players you would expect to produce such a performance.
