551. Here's a guy who should have probably played a test or two at the very least, but not to be. A former FC cricketer. Who is he?

Andre Hoffman?
That's correct! And with the FC records as they stood: http://www.espncricinfo.com/zimbabwe/co ... 55490.html
he should have gotten a look in, in place of, say, a Travis Friend or someone at some point.

But he had his injury and weight issues, as can be rea from this wonderfully detailed bio by John Ward: http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/content/ ... 18878.html

I miss those detailed bio's of John Ward's. These days we just have pariah's speculation to go on, and watermelon's sightings of players in the local KFC.

552. They held a world record. For 8 long years. Yes. That's no joke. What was it?

With Jemisi's permission, this question can probably bring a bonus point on the stats quiz thread as well (including to Jemisi, if he chooses to answer this :)), since it has to do with a world record stat.

They were once the only opening pair in ODIs to be dismissed for first ball ducks - http://www.espncricinfo.com/series/1463 ... di-series/
Eight years later, Thirimanne and Dilshan repeated the same feat against Afghanistan - http://www.espncricinfo.com/series/8039 ... world-cup/

Wow! I didn't know they had achieved that, although it was perfectly plausible for that pair. Are you saying that their's was the first such case? In that case I'll give you a point, if we can establish that. But that, as a record, in a way would still hold if it is correct, as they would be the first pair to "achieve" that even thought others have also managed to do so later on. If they are not the first pair, then it's obviously not worthy of a record. How do we establish this?

What I am looking for is a something slightly different, one that is more worthy of remembering. Let us see if you / others can crack that.

Yes, theirs was indeed the first such case.

Great! They were the first opening pair to get golden ducks in the history of ODIs! That record would still stand, although 8+ years later, another pair has joined them.

Now, I have given you a point. But the question would remain open to come up with another (more respectable) record they held, which they relinquished 8 years later.
