WCQ Squad predictions thread

Post by Kriterion_BD »

Time to start ZCFs favorite pastime where no matter what the subject is, people will inevitably start posting their favored XIs.

Big question is with Ballance’s retirement who now has a clear path into the squad? Obviously Madhevere walks into tbe XI I think. But makes room for fringe guys like Marumani to now be likely to at least make the 15.

Also Myers’ availability is a huge question.

Ervine (C)
I Kaia
Williams
Raza
Madhevere
Myers
Madande
Burl
Mavuta
Masakadza
Nyauchi
Evans
Ngarava
Muzarabani

This is the squad if everyone is available.

Add Marumani as a backup Wk if we can pick 15. Not sure if it is 14 or 15.

That squad picks itself. No debate.

What's the situation with Chakabva?

I'm also hoping they do pick Nyauchi over Chatara but I got a feeling we will see the experience tag used to protect him

The only change I would make would be Jongwe for Mavuta. When the quality of opposition improved he started struggling. Over 7 games against Glamorgan, Durham, the Netherlands and Pakistan A he has only picked up 4 wickets. He had one Logan Cup game in between and he picked up 8 wickets in that match. This seems to suggest to me he might not be ready for the step up

Jongwe makes things happen. Evans needs some competition unless we are saying Myers will be fighting for Evans' spot. I don't have that much faith in his bowling just yet

Kaia
Madhevere
Ervine
Myers
Williams
Raza
Burl
Madande
Evans
Ngarava
Muzarbani

Jongwe
Mazakdaza
Chatara
Marumani

My playing 11 followed by reserves . Don't think mavuta or mazakadza are level above Williams,Raza burl or madhevere to take a specialist spinner's spot. One can also consider jongwe for Myers if Myers looks undercooked.

The Squad will be 15, that's always the case in ICC events. I'll agree with SZ's squad, that is the best available unless someone seriously puts their hand up in the Pak A series. However I fear Chatara will get the nod over Nyauchi.

Myers i want to see in the pakistan shaheens one day matches preferably at 3 or 4.
I think Burl needs to be careful long term as his ODI stats arent great. Campbell may well get his spot soon if he keeps his short format form up

For the love of christ I hope they drop Larry.
He was electric in years gone by, but honestly it's time to move on. Nyauchi is somebody who can make a ball talk.
I'd rather have Jongwe in too. I like Mavuta and he's developing nicely but, in terms of wickets, Jongwe is a no brainer

Payangara has obviously been the prototype for ageing overweight bowlers
