Which would allow Zimbabwe to send a full strength side to India. It's hard to keep on top of all this newsSri Lanka to postpone Zimbabwe tour
Mumbai: Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) is likely to postpone the home series against Zimbabwe, it is learnt here.
According to Colombo-based sources, the CEO Duleep Mendis was to discuss the issue with Ozias Bvute, the Zimbabwe representative in ICC's CEC meeting in South Africa yesterday.
Mendis said most probably the series against Zimbabwe will be postponed for a few months.
"Our players have been continuously playing cricket and now they need some rest before most of them are ready for the IPL matches in India", another source put it.
Zimbabwe was scheduled to play five ODI's, two at the Sinhalese Sports Ground and remaining three at the R. Premadasa Stadium- between March 11 and 22.

its cool but i would have loved us to have another crack at the lankans
12.4 Odhiambo to Vermeulen, FOUR, that's an appalling long hop, Vermulen had plenty of time to get into position, drink a cup of tea, and pull the ball towards the long leg boundary- his first boundary today

Not a good news! All the international matches of Zimbabwe are being postpond. There is lack of international cricket for Zimbabwe after those postpond. The next scheduled series for Zimbabwe is in August against Bangladesh.Long time!ZC has to manage some international cricket for the sake of the team.
Yes,it allows Zimbabwean national team to play in the Deodhar Trophy in India while the 'A' side will play against Namibia and Canada.

If it's true then personally i see it as nothing more than a slap in the face for Zimbabwe cricket, especially when you consider the blind support given to the Asian bloc countries by ZC.
Another example of modern cricket, and it's players, having no interest other than lining their own pockets by putting things like IPL and ICL first.
The outcome of the series is/was unlikely to be a win for Zim but the experience will/would be invaluable for the Zim players and, of course, if one of the three potential Zim sides is not required then the players further down the order will lose out altogether.
I very much hope this is an unfounded rumour.

Re: Problem solved maybe? SL might be postponed
its been confirmed by cric info
on the face of it, it doesn't seem to bad as it means more cricket for the national team as they will be able to tour India as well as sri lanka in June
but if you think about it really carefully then this is a disaster as it means that there will be a clash of club versus country as it is unlikely the players who are playing in England may not be able to get out of there club contracts which means that the likes of Williams, Hondo, Coventry, Chigumbura who all hold UK contracts may not be available and may lead to them retiring once again.

Dreadful decision, shame on Sri Lanka and their selfish players.

I see that the cricinfo report has been updated since earlier on today and that the series has been cancelled due to 'issues' raised by broadcaster Ten Sports.
My opinion hasn't changed though, the game of cricket, throughout the world, has been totally devalued by the greed of players, administrators and the media and will remain so until the excess flood of cash is brought under control.
I notice in the last paragraph we have the comment that, 'The series is likely to be re-arranged for later this year', what odds that it will be forgotten about completely.

I agree with zimfan1. That is a very very important point to consider indeed.zimfan1 wrote:but if you think about it really carefully then this is a disaster as it means that there will be a clash of club versus country as it is unlikely the players who are playing in England may not be able to get out of there club contracts which means that the likes of Williams, Hondo, Coventry, Chigumbura who all hold UK contracts may not be available and may lead to them retiring once again.
Now that this series is off, ZC should consider scheduling a series against Pakistan soon after the Deodhar trophy. Anyway, Pakistani players are not in IPL.
Shame on the cricket administrators and broadcasters, by the way. This has not remained a sport anymore.

Good option,Crimson Avenger.
Pakistan hasnt got any players in the IPL this year.Pakistan always seems to struggle to get the opportunity to play a decent amount of international cricket.ZC should talk with PCB management and should manage an ODI series of Pak vs Zim.I think,it will be welcomed by Pakistan cricket authorities.

Presumably this will be classed as the 'official' announcement
