Bennett and Gwandu are in the squad apparently. Young Donald will be a very happy man!

Finally looking past Chatara which is a good thing.

Bennett could be a squad player for experience. Depends if williams is picked.

Gumbie has earned his chance I feel. Hasn't done too much wrong.
Plus he is opener so can add an extra batsman.
Gumbie is not a one day player

Not a 20/20 player but certainly has improved lots in one day arena.

Why not? He’s not super aggressive but he’s done alright so far. Not done anything wrong

Huge chance for Bennet. I believe he will take it.

For now Gumbie is the best choice for ODIs. Maybe they will risk having Maru as the keeper for T20s to make space for someone like Munyonga. Who else can keep? Welch Jr hasn't had the opportunity to play enough. Dane is still a county player. Maybe if Taruvinga or Kamwemba really shine at the world cup they could be fast tracked. Highly unlikely, they might have other plans.

Zimbabwe need a keeper better than Madande. Even in the recent Uganda game, he dropped Ramjani right at the start who then went on to score crucial 40 odd runs. Madande then proceeded to give more byes and missed chances.

He is not an electric batter either who can turn the game, neither he nor Gumbie are suited for T20s. It is surprising that in the entire country, there is not one good Wicket keeper. Madande is in the same class as Mutambami and that itself says a lot.

I'm sorry to say but Zimbabwe don't even have a big hitting finisher like Chigumbura. Ryan Burl is good but he needs to be consistent and atm he is not playing the role of a finisher anyways. He is batting higher up. Again surprising that there are very few big hitting all rounders in Zimbabwe. No one in the ranks of Elton or Blignaut.

Zimbabwe haven't even found a proper replacement for Solomon Mire. A big hitting opener. Actually Zhuwao did a very good job in 2018 WCQ despite his limited technical abilities. At least he was fearless. I don't see a single fearless batter in Zimbabwe as of now who can open the innings. Look what Nikolas Davin is doing for Namibia or Munsey is doing for Scotland... Come on man, there just not enough talent coming through.

Mindset and approach also needs to change. Certain roles require fearless batters like one of the openers or one at the end - the big hitting finisher. Moreover if you play a 20km long tail, despite having 50 bowling options you are limiting the risk taking ability of your batters ... They won't be able to play freely as they know there is no one after no. 7. There will be some bowler at No. 8 and 9, who won't bowl much anyways, doesn't know how to bat and probably plays just to fill up the numbers.

In my above post, fearless doesn't mean brainless. Add to all that the game awareness of Zimbabwean batters literally sucks. They don't know how to frustrate opposition, when to hit, when to block. Raza in that Scotland game, Jongwe in the decider game against Namibia which they lost, shows the lack of game awareness, and for this itself Dave can lose his job let alone other things like sending Wellington at 6.

I actually do like him, he values his wicket which is a big tick
