Heath Streak opens nets in Emganwini

FORMER Zimbabwe senior national cricket team captain, Heath Streak, yesterday officially opened cricket practice nets named after him in Bulawayo’s high- density suburb of Emganwini.


The nets were built through funding by a friend of Minister of Education, Sports and Culture, David Coltart, the former Member of Parliament for the constituency, Bulawayo South, now split into Nketa and Bulawayo South.
Speaking at the handover of the nets to the local community, Coltart said it was always his intention to build nets in Emganwini and he was grateful to the generosity of his former schoolmate at Christian Brothers College, who is now based outside the country who funded the construction of the nets.
Coltart handed over cricket equipment to Tinashe Musasiwa, a representative of the local cricket team. The equipment was donated by members of the New Zealand cricket team on their last visit to Zimbabwe in 2005 and consists of batting gloves, batting pads, thigh pads and chest pads.
The Heath Streak nets are situated in an area which has been earmarked for a sports ground and will benefit aspiring cricketers in Emganwini.
Streak said he was honoured to have the nets named after him and urged the youngsters who will benefit from the nets to fully utilise them.
The ceremony was also attended by Senator for Emganwini, Siphiwe Ncube, Nketa MP Seiso Moyo and Ward 26 Councillor, Norman Hlabano.

good to see him giving back i wonder if there is any chance of him becoming national coach in the future

Pleasing to notice that Heath Streak is extending the cricket facilities in Zimbabwe.Hope that one day he will become the bowling coach of the national team of Zimbabwe.But we have to wait till his deal with ICL ends in the next year 2010.
