Yeah it's hard to know but at the moment zimbabwe need a batsmen who can average 30 eg someone to replace ervine and compete with the lower teams. Probably 5 Ervine quality players

The guys they have tried like Shumba, Wes etc, most of the team in Sri Lanka have been given enough chances. They haven't made runs against Netherlands, Ireland etc in home conditions who is arguably who zim should be competing against. Playing in Sri Lanka will be always be a lot more difficult to be fair.

I think Wes etc need to go play club cricket in the UK, India etc. It would be hard to gain confidence, improve your game when failing at international level. They are still young too.

Players in other countries go back to shield, county etc and work on things. Preferably zim would have a good domestic where this could be possible too but unfortunately that's not the case or it needs to be supplemented with other leagues.

The idea of a zim team, especially for say T20 in the SA leagues was a good idea for the brief period it existed.

People on here are still desperately clinging on in hope that 1 or 2 players will transform us. In reality we have seen nothing whatsoever that shows us that the likes of Cumball, Bennett, Welch etc will perform any better at international level than the current incumbents in the team. They are good players and they might. But you wouldn’t bet money on it.

So now we are clamouring over a guy who isn’t even eligible for another 2.5 years and most probably will ditch us at some point in the hope he will transform us single handedly?

At risk of repeating myself for the 1,000th time , our problems are far far deeper and far more structural. Even these talented players you all list would probably struggle to transition and perform at international duty, just like the many talented individuals who have tried before them.
Our issues are way deeper

The real way to see change instead of hoping that Johnathan Campbell and Antum Naqvi will Single handedly win world cups for us is root and branch structural change.

There are a number of relatively simply fixes and changes that could be made to our franchise system to improve it somewhat. That’s the starter.

Then we need an academy and an actual high performance pathway from school to u19 to club to franchise to international. We should hire a high performance director and several dedicated HP or academy coaches with experience in pathways who can build a structure here for the identified talented guys. It won’t be cheap, but it’s a far better investment than Vic Falls Stadium!

We need to stop playing domestic formats in ‘blocks’. A month of Pro50 in November and a week of T20 in March is ridiculous. Mix them up and play them throughout the season and importantly we need far far more T20 fixtures overall.

Then we need to ensure franchise selections/contracts are on merit. There are far too many passengers still in 1 or 2 of the sides.
Then outlaw this situation where some guys bribe and pay their way to play! This is killing us. Pick on merit, not in bank balances.
2 high quality overseas per side. A bowler and a batter. The Pakistani bowlers have been a good addition but where are all the top class County bats this year? Invest and get 5 high quality top order guys here for 3-4 months. 5 Compton’s.
Top coaches at franchise level. Some of the guys coaching franchise are not good enough. We have better coaches available to us. Import from SA if necessary, even at this level.
Franchises need to actually train. Have a pre-season together. Actually have some training days between matches. They currently don’t! Crazy.
No franchise matches during international tours. Our strongest players should be playing franchise all the time. If the national team are away, then no franchise should happen. It should be a week of strong club cricket in the provinces or NPL or something. Franchise needs to be the domestic pinnacle, not glorified club.
Play more at the out grounds. This is expensive and players obviously don’t like the travelling, but playing every fixture on the same two grounds in Harare all year just creates familiarity of conditions and environments. Spend the cash and make people go to Kwekwe or Mutare once in a while.

Simple fixes for franchise

None of that is rocket science.

Then you need to find the budget to pay people properly at all levels.

Then the hard part is the professional high performance academy and pathway

Also they need to bring back age group cricket because u19 is often too late especially for batters.

Bring back the u13 and u16 programmes/tours/camps/fixtures and start putting effort into the kids before they are 18!

Was just taking a look at Chamu’s stats since he is batting and I found an interesting record where he is number 9. Most ODI runs without a hundred. Heath Streak was 4th with almost 3000 runs. Guy Whittall is 7th. Our very own batting coach is 13th. This really is a systematic problem.

Good to see Nyauchi taking a couple of wickets today. We need him to get back to full fitness so that our pace bowling depth is a little bit stronger.

If Ritchie or Blessing gets injured at the minute we are screwed.

The Eagles are going at 6 an over. If these 2 guys bat the last 30 they might actually be thinking of chasing this down.
