Walter Huchu. great great offie. Really clever bowler. Great fielder. Really good bat. Has made a few hundreds.
Angus Curtis, probably won't play here again. At Hilton. Great player. Unorthodox seamer (almost bowls off the wrong foot!). Swings and seams. Can bat long. Has a couple of hundreds.

Short of front-line batters, standard Zim problem. Chiradza, Welch, Byrom, Curtis, Curran, Lock.
Welch and Curran have scored 17 hundreds apiece. Add up the hundreds scored by all schoolboys in the last 5 years, multiply it by two and you won't get close to these two. These boys can really bat. Curran flambouyant. Welch hardly gives a chance but slower. Byrom big potential as well. Bit slow but great technique, should have scored many more hundreds, but will have a rush of blood and play a loose shot after he's done all the hard work and set. He will come right this year or next and then is going to score big hundreds. Curran and Welch put on a 170 run partnership in a T20 in 10 overs!! Both were made to retire? Curran's top score is 275 in a 50 over game. Welch 199. Curtis turning heads in SA, really going places.

I highly rate Malcolm Lake and Ryan Bearl. They are u19 though. Lake got a 100 against India in the World Cup. Brilliant leftie, plays too square early on in his innings and gives chances but once he's set his awwesome. If he played in the V until he was over 50 he would make plenty runs. Bearl equally good. Both of them are phenomenal talents. Neither made an impression at the WC though (apart from Lake's hundred). This was because of the level of cricket they had back home. Watch these two guys. They both have a chance of making it big

PJ Moore has potential as well. Made lots of runs at schoolboy level but struggled in Franchise. He's a front foot player and hasn't adapted to the extra pace. Doesn't like it short and quick (who does??), but shown a reluctance to change his game, which he should because he has so much potential

There's a Form 1 kid called Richie somebody. Also a good little player. Too flambouyant and hits it in the air, but is a real talent. In Grade 5 and 6 there's a couple of good players as well. One guy plays for Chipembere, dubious age, but very good nonetheless. Someone has spent time with him. Gibbs (grade 5) is really talented. Matt Welch (grade 5, Nick's brother) also going to be hectic. Cricket runs in families. The love gets handed down. Know the Welch boys and their Dad well, they practice nearly every day, winter and summer. They have a full set up at their house, bowling machines, grass nets, etc. Byrom puts in time as well, most days. Problem is not enuf game time. The system has failed them.

Its said because anyone with a Western surname is probably going to leave to play club cricket before they're ever old enough for ZIM senior selection.

Or school. Or university. Oh, and half the guys with African surnames as well. It is all very frustrating. This Zim side would really struggle to be competitive even if everyone was available (Ballance, Ervine, etc). As they're not, it is almost a lost cause...

So the talent is there, it's actually there under our noses waiting to be harnessed. I was beginning to think that we really had nothing in the cupboard. But three of the lads you mentioned have gone (Lake, Burl and Curran), and like Aydee said, i'm sure many more will follow.

It's so frustrating because judging by the names you've given us, there's a nice blend of black and white cricketers there. We just need to pull our finger out

Can you shed any light on these guys googly:

Matthew Bentley
Kieran Geyle
James Bruce
Campbell Light
Andre Odendaal
Cuthbert Musoko

I've always been curious as to how good these guys are, and if they're highly regarded or not

Gayle- really useful spinner. Clever pace variation. Great hitter and great eye and hands. Plants his front foot and adjusts. Major technical flaw and will struggle against genuine pace and clever bowling. When he comes off he's a match winner in T20 (not that often) Not committed. Useful
Light- used to be really quick, has hurt his back, probably from a mixed action. Hits huge and has a good eye, lacks a bit of technique. Match winner when he comes off.
Bruce- looks a bit awkward but solid and gritty and can bowl. Great rugby player. Don't know where he is.
Bentley- Good spinner. Solid bat. Likes his cricket. Good technique, seems to lack a bit of attack/flair? Not sure about him yet, haven't seen him bat a long innings, for sure there's potential. Comes from bif pedigree. His old man was deadly.
Don't know Odendaal and Musoko.
