Thinking about it Duffin might well have been a bit premature with his retirement, An Injury to Mawoyo and we have the openers Sibanda/maruma neither are in great form. Could have been a ready made replacement for either of them and im sure particularly Maruma

Yeah, we just have no established FC options to choose from. I think Hami and Vusi need to do it next game with Hami playing in Mawoyo's blocking role. Williams has to come in at 3 for Maruma.

Could Taylor open? He is in good form.

The worry with Williams would be that he has not batted up the order for the Tuskers for some time, he was mostly batting below Ervine.

Sure but he is the best candidate. Waller, Chigs, Mutumbami? They won't go up there. Taylor could move up one and Williams go four, but I think Taylor is happy there.

Assuming Hami openes, something he is clearly loath to do. Then the argument stays the same: Williams, Waller, Chigs, no-one of them will move up and open instead of Maruma. I agree that Timycen is not opener, but the cupboard is bare, there's only Sikandar Raza in the squad who does the job occasionally in FC cricket with not much success. I suspect that the selectors will stick with Maruma for the second Test and not change the side at all.

Taylor has virtually opened in both innings anyway.

You may well be right.

Maybe Ray Price should should open? Joking of course, although he did open for awhile in domestic cricket a number of seasons ago.
