Slips fielding

Post by brmtaylor.com admin »

Can anyone name the three slips Zimbabwe uses?

I know Masakadza and Sibanda are usually in the slips cordon, I can't for the life of me think of who is normally the third bloke. I'm pretty sure I remember seeing Williams standing at slips to Utseya's bowling, but I'm pretty sure he normally fields around gully so I think it must be someone else. Does anyone know?

Anyway, the point I was going to make was that our slips fielding is pretty poor overall. More catches go down there than anywhere else in the field I've noticed.

Who would be our best slips fieldsmen? Let's say we can pick from anyone playing domestic cricket. Taylor used to be a second (?) slip when he wasn't wicket keeper and I don't remember noticing any missed opportunities, so he is potentially one option. Mark Vermeulen's name is always coming up in the Logan Cup match reports for his catches in the slips - and of course the way he broke his finger was by taking a spectacular catch of Chibhabha. I think he is an obvious choice if/when he returns to the national team.

What are your thoughts?
