. TANZANIA strong team for the Africa Cricket Association (ACA) Africa Cup 2014 tournament has been unveiled. The six-national competition is scheduled to kick off from Monday to Saturday at Sahara Park Willowmoore in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Tanzania is among four top African countries to compete against two ACA full members in the Africa Cup. The team that left the country on Friday to Johannesburg will be led by national team captain Hamis Abdallah.
"We are in great shape and spirit ready to confront our opponents. It is always a great feeling to play against top sides that are full International Cricket Council (ICC) membership," said Abdallah.
According to the Tanzania Cricket Association (TCA) official, Kazim Nasser, other national team members are Khalil Rehemtullah, Abhik Patwa, Benson Mwitai, Riziki Kiseto, N. Mapunda, Ashish Kamania, G. Tandika, Kassim Nassoro, Salum Jumbe, S. Abdul and L. Ng'anga.
ACA Chief Executive Officer, Cassim Suliman said in a press statement that was availed to this paper on Friday that other countries in the line for the tournament are Kenya, Namibia and Uganda.
He said that each country will be competing against ACA full members Zimbabwe Emerging and South Africa Emerging teams in a round robin tournament.
Suliman said that the teams will compete over five days playing five limited overs matches. "These matches will determine the winner of the Africa Cup 2014," he added.
"I am envisaging that this will become an annual event. It is hoped that we can grow it into tournament where the best African cricketers are competing against each other on equal terms.
"As we all know, it is only through the furnace of fierce competition that we can tap the talents of our cricketers," he said. Suliman said that the recent win by the Zimbabwe national team against Australia (ranked no.1 in ODI's) has proved this. The tournament will be preceded by Africa Sixes Challenge which will be held in Pretoria from today.

Yeah, good stuff by Sauramba. He has to show his worth this season. Mupunga did well too, agree with the sentiments in the other thread, may be he deserved the A team chance more than Muzarabani. Comes across as a Tino Best kind of character based on the descriptions from people on the forums so far.

Re: Zimbabwe Emerging XI
Zimbabwe Invitational XI are currently topping the group with their unbeaten run. South Africa Invitational XI have lost twice already, losing to Namibia and Uganda respectively. These tournaments are healthy and should be put on more regularly, helps our up and coming players to have a go. And it's nice to see some of the African Associate countries give our Zim/SA select XI's a good run for their money.
Below is the the standings table with points and net run rates etc.
