For those of you who thought Bliganut clocking up to 148kph in this world cup was a myth, skip to 8.10.
I knew I'd need him bowl a delivery at this pace as a kid on TV, finally found the clip.

That’s a good find.
I distinctly remember him hitting 148 twice in Oz the following year (pretty sure it was Perth) in the Aussie summer.

Side question.
Why does all these footage look so ancient?
I remember it was crystal clear at the time and I used to see old footage from the 80s and 90s and wonder what I’m wondering now from 2003?

The speed gun was rigged in that world cup, we saw speeds we have never seen since, everybody was bowling 90MPH.

The only people bowling 90mph in that World Cup were:

. Shoaib Akhtar (famously bowled 161.4kph)
. Brett Lee (99mph)
. Shane Bond (95mph)
. Ashish Nehra (93mph)
. Ntini (he bowled a ball at 93mph against Bangladesh, his final delivery against Alok Kopali caught at third man).
. Blignaut (92mph)
. Zaheer Khan (90mph in the final)
. Andy Bichel (90mph against England).

If you look back all of these bowlers were hitting their peek period. Bond never really bowled that fast again due to injuries, Zaheer Khan was always fast as a youngster, as was Nehra. Bichel was probably just in a groove against the English and Ntini was electric during this period. Look up his clips on YouTube from this era, Ntini was retailer hitting the early 140’s. The wickets in SA, don’t forget, are always going to be more receptive for fast bowlers.
