MBEKEZELI Mabuza was yesterday crowned the Bulawayo Metropolitan Cricket Association Cricketer of the Year for the 2008/2009 season.

He got recognition during the Bulawayo Metropolitan Cricket Association annual general meeting held at Queens Sports Club yesterday.
Mabuza, a top order batsman who also bowls off spin, had a terrific season leading Emakhandeni Cricket Club to the Bulawayo Metropolitan Cricket Association First League title and broke into the Zimbabwe A side.
He went on to pick up five wickets to lead Westerns to a sensational four run victory over Northerns in the domestic Twenty20 final played at Queens Sports Club in May.
He is recovering from injury after being involved in a horrific car crash and is yet to be offered a contract by the Matabeleland Tuskers franchise.
The Most Improved Cricketer of the Year award was shared by off spinner John Nyumbu and fast bowler Njabulo Ncube who has since joined the Mutare based Mountaineers franchise.
Pace bowler Thabo Mboyi scooped the Fielder of the Year award. Blessing Mutumwapavi walked away with the Groundsman of the Year as well as the Most Improved Umpire accolade.
Nokuthula Sibanda was adjudged the Administrator of the Year, Danmore Mthunzi took the Most Improved Scorer award, Trevor Phiri was the Coach of the Year while Donald Nyoni won the Umpire’s Dedication and Commitment award.
