Logan Cup records

Post by cricket_22001 »

I have seen cricinfo's scorecard for the Rhino's/Tuskers game & after round 1 there are some significant records to note.
Mark Vermeulen is now the Logan Cup leading rungetter after his 47 & 73.
Prosper Utseya passed 100 wickets (3rd all time)
Hamilton Masakadza passed 2000 runs & brother Shingi passed 50 wickets.

Trivia: Neil Ferreira has the record for most Logan Cup centuries with 9.

Looks that way. He's "only" joint-4th in the run table so far this season:

Code: Select all

1. H Masakadza 188 (Mountaineers)
2. F Kasteni 168 (Rhinos)
3. V Sibanda 142 (Rhinos)
=4. E Chigumbura 120 (Eagles)
=4. MA Vermeulen 120 (Tuskers)
6. AG Cremer 117 (Rhinos)
Quite impressive that we have 6 guys over the 100 runs mark after one match...

Thought as much but overrole Vermuelen has 4,700 odd runs in first class cricket. Someway behind Houghton's 7,000 odd runs.

Sorry, I will clarify.
Since the Logan Cup gained first class status in 1993/94 I have been (on an amateur basis) been collating my own statistical records. Yes, according to my records, Mark Vermeulen has overtaken the previous all time first class logan cup leading run getter, Grant Flower, since Vermeulen's debut in 1997/98. He started the season on 2581 alltime Logan Cup career runs behind Grant Flower's 2608. So, since he scored 47 & 73, he has now 2701 runs. Houghton has 650 first class Logan Cup runs.
Also, to clarify, Hamilton Masakadza is now the 8th player to record 2000 all time first class Logan Cup runs & Utseya is the 3rd bowler to take 100 first class Logan Cup wickets. And Neil Ferreira holds the all time first class Logan Cup record of 9 centuries.
Hope this answers the questions.
BTW, for me, this sort of info is missing in the main cricket statistics (as a list but found in individual playing records) & it is where I get a buzz everytime a first class season. I have been collecting these for Zim, WI, SL, NZ & Bangla.
