Bangladesh Line up for Zim tour

Post by jaybro »

With the injuries to Shakib and Tamin plus the suspension of Sabbir Rahman what type of side should we expect to see from BD ??

For the ODI side we can go off the Asia Cup Squad but what about the Tests??

I'm thinking

LL Das
Imrul Kayes
Mominul
Mushfiqur
Mahmudullah
Mosadekk Hossain
Nural Hasan
Mehidy
Taijul
Abu Jayed
Mustifzur

Unless they want to rest the Fizz?? He doesn't seem to like playing Tests that much

Mushfiq is iffy too. He was playing through a rib injury during the Asia Cup. I think he has resumed batting in the nets though. Apparently Mashrafe and Mahmudullah also have some niggles (when does Mash not haha).

That Test XI looks good, except Id like to see Shadman Islam open in place of Imrul. Shadman has been around the domestic scene for a while now, and while he hasnt really piled on the runs I think he's always been thereabouts.

I would also not mind if we saw Jubair Hossain the leg spinner who debuted against ZIM in 2014 but only played 3 Tests after that.

Ideally I ddnt think Mahmudullah belongs in the Test side as his average has now dropped under 30, but with Shakib out he's likely to be in.

The selectors seem to like Mahmudullah they always pick him, I know you don’t like him Kriterion.

Wow if Mushy was out it would really blow this series wide open, but I think he will play.

Do you think with Shakib out they might think about playing 5 bowlers considering Mehidy can bat a bit? I feel they’re stuck in a hard place trying to find the right balance especially considering Tamin is out their batting is a bit weak.

I think they’ll pick 6 batsman, keeper and the 4 bowlers. They’ll back Taijul and Mehidy to do the damage and take the 40 wickets required.

I like Riyad, he's brilliant in ODI cricket. Actually even in ODIs he's got 3 year averages of 35 at a strike rate of 85 which is just bang average considering a guy like Babar Azam is averaging 50+. Still, his ability to play clutch knocks like vs England at the last world cup and vs NZ in last year's champions trophy (both knockout matches in the sense that a BD loss meant the end of the tourney for us), means that he is our 4th most important white ball batter. But in Tests, the numbers don't like. He's more of a liability. He might need to play this series with so many injured seniors out, but thats about it. I'll be relieved if ZIM and WI can pick Mahmudullah's wicket cheaply in the red ball format.

But the biggest news so far, is that Shakib's injury is worse than earlier thought and he might not even be able to be fit in time for the World Cup. In fact, it looks as though Shakib's finger will never fully recover and what's worse is that its his batting and bowling hand too. Granted, he won't need his pinky finger to ball spin, so he might just have to become a specialist spinner and bat down the order as a tailender if he can't bat anymore.

Here's my take on the possible squad...or at least the one I'd like to see:

1) Shadman Islam - old school opener, just hit 157 in a first class match last week.
2) Liton Das - makes it a right left opening combo
3) Mominul - in poor form, but he averages about 60 in home Tests
4) Mushfiq -
5) Mosaddek - has a first class average of nearly 70!!!
6) Riyad
7) Nurul - best gloveman in the country and can bat decently
8) Miraz - I'd like to see more batting responsibility from him as Shakib's heir apparent
9) Taijul - but maybe also give a chance to Jubair the legspinner
10) Abu Jayed - rare swing bowler from BD
11) Mustafiz

If Mushy and Riyad were to be out injured, I would probably throw Shanto and another young batter in there. Or maybe go with the experience of Nasir Hossain, but he might be injured as well.

Do you think they'll rest the Fizz for the Zimbabwe Tests ??

Considering he's had his issues and the WC is early next year they won't him breaking down.

I don't think Fizz will be rested. I certainly don't think he should be rested. Bangladesh plays FAR fewer games than even Afghanistan and Zimbabwe, so there is no need for any player to be rested. We aren't India. We literally play 6 Tests and 10-12 ODIs per year whereas teams like Sri Lanka play 10-12 Tests and 25 ODIs.

I do however think Fizz should be rested from the 3rd ODI in preperation for the Test series. I would also like Rubel and Mashrafee to be rotated, not rested for 2 main reasons: 1) get a chance to see the young BD quicks with an eye on the tour to NZ next summer and then the WC in English conditions and 2) eases a little of the workload from the first choice quicks without dropping them from the squad entirely.

Shadman continues his fine form with 183 not out, to go with his 157 last week. Will be very hard for selectors to ignore him from the Test side.

A few updates on the BD squad:

1) Shakib has had an improvement in his prognosis, now being said he will be out for 3 months. However, the fact that a minor issue (he played with this injury for months now) has gotten this bad means that I will continue to fear the worst, while hoping for the best.

2) Tamim might be back in time for the 2nd Test, but again, I wouldn't be surprised if he needed time. Also not a good idea to rush if he's not at least 90% fit.

3) Mushfiq has a fractured rib and "some fractured fingers" from before the Asia Cup. Still dominated with the bat, and has been resting and doesn't want to miss the ZIM series citing that BD plays so few games he doesn't want to miss any.

4) Mashrafee and Mahmudullah are expected to recover in time.

So I was right about them resting Fizz I knew they'd protect him with the WC next year, I wonder if they'll panic and pick him now?

Looking at their side and their recent woes in Tests I think their biggest issue is they pick the same guys for the Tests because they played well in the ODIs, only Jayed and Mominul are 'Test specialists'

With the amount of guys they have in the domestic comp there should be a bigger contrast in their sides from the 3 formats

They're stupid for not picking Tusher Imran, he would be perfect at 3 or 4 for them right now and although he is 34 he could play until he is 38

You'd know more than I Kriterion but surely there are other options rather than Kayes and Mahmudullah ??? Kayes averages 26 in Tests whilst Mahmudullah has only scored 1 ton. Also that wanker Nazmul Islam is nothing special surely there are better spinners then him??
