Desert T20

Ireland 6/125 after 20 ov against Afghanistan.

Have Ireland been struggling a bit lately? I don't follow them closely but they don't seem to be as competitive as they were a few years ago.

Ireland have been hammered since the 2015 World Cup in every match they've played against major sides. I'm talking 150 run defeats every time in ODIs. They would have been crushed by 50-100 runs in the T20 vs Bangladesh had it been completed. They're LOI sides are I guess in transition. They are well behind Afghanistan now.

In the FC cricket they are still atop the Intercontinental Cup by a big margin, ahead of even the Afghans. The pedigree is evident there.

Comfortable win for Afghanistan. Ireland simply don't have the bowling talent to compete with the Afghans.

In longer matches the Irish have superior batting ability which allows them to outbat the opposition.

Hopefully the rerturn of Rankin, the emergence of 17 yo quick Little, and Craig Young will improve their bowling attack.

Yup - suffering from a number of player retirements and a new (new-ish now, I suppose) coach. The new setup isn't entirely gelling yet.

Part of me's hoping Phil Simmons does something to annoy the WICB (usually isn't too hard to do) so we can have him back. :)

Afghans just pulverized Ireland in the final!

10 wicket, chased 71 down at nearly 10 an over!

I think Ireland are probably a notch below ZIM at present. But they always go hard against Zim in head to head matxhes, especially in ICC events.

There will likely be a bilateral series between the 2 sides in 2017 which will be interesting.

The Irish managed to hold the Afghans 2-2 in a ODI series at home, but had a 2-0 lead I think.

It all depends on how much confidence Zimbabwe takes with them.
