Without knowing the salary figures being offered to the Shield players it's hard for me to comment, but it's more complex than players salaries it's about how much is Shield cricket worth? The facts are domestic cricket brings in very little money as the Sheffield Shield isn't televised & the common man has very little interest in it. The 50 over comp has been diminished and crammed into 2 weeks and is shown on '9 Go' so people don't even realise it's on. From a business point of view the Shield Players / Games cost more than they're worth BUT from a Cricketing point of view a successful National team is only as strong as it's domestic competition. Australia needs a strong domestic comp in all 3 formats to continue producing quality players to keep a high standard in the national team, investing money into the domestic scene or grass roots is like a blind investment as you don't see the return on paper unless you look at what the national team is bringing in. It's business people making the call the cut the funds for domestic cricket & grassroots because in a business if a sector isn't making money you cut it. But sport & cricket are different and the dollar value of domestic cricket is priceless .......
