Post by Googly »

To be confirmed but looks like Morkel was told to move on by CSA.

Well with Rabada and Ngidi they can fill their quota without compromising the quality of the side, so I’m not surprised if he was tapped on the shoulder.

He’ll end up living in Australia post retirement I reckon since he has married Aussie TV personality Roz Kelly

Yea I was just going to say, he'll be in Oz in half a decade.

I'm really glad he's got a county gig. That's a fantastic signing really and will seriously help improve the quality of county cricket, in all formats.

I'll be very honest. Even though he has done very well this series, I was wondering when it would be that he got the shoulder tap. Ngidi and Rabada (as the Bro said) fill two spots for the quota system. They should be playing every single game anyway so that doesn't matter, but in terms of sticking to the criteria they fit the bill and allow for more flexability with the batting. Bavuma I still think is a quota player but he batted wonderfully in the last test. When Amla retires they'll need to find another Asian player.

Anyway, I can't wait to watch Mornes' this summer.

A wonderful career. Morkel and Southee are probably two guys in the current generation of fast bowlers who have been exemplars of how to carry yourself on and off the field. Respect!

Does the quota system include ‘Asian players’???

I was under the understanding it just required 2 black players and 4 of colour and Asians counted as colour ?

Why do Asians need a quota? If anything we are an over-advantaged group vis a vis all other minorities (at least in the US and Canada).

I thought the quota was so the national team would be a reflection of the country is majority blacks???

Are there that many Asians in South Africa that they need to have their faces reflected in the team???

Really is quite ridiculous

It seems rather odd that somebody like Imran Tahir would benefit from the quota system considering he hadn't even been to South Africa until his mid 20s, long after apartheid ended. In the end it is kinda a moot point, Tahir would deserve his limited overs place on merit, but it does seem a bit strange
