T-20 cricket in Olympic 2012!

Post by Detective RDS »

Adam Gilchirst, the former wicket keeper and batsman of Australia wants the cricket should be included in the Olympic 2012.The other players and the cricket fans also want the same. The mayor of London has told the words of hope about it too.

The mayor of the town where the Olympic 2012 is going to be held has said that,
'It is the best time to include Twenty-20 cricket in the Olympic'.

Its really a great news to the cricket fans!

From what I've read, it won't be possible to get T20 into the 2012 Games - earliest they could be in as a competitive sport is 2020, and while up until the Athens games the host city could choose a number of "demonstration" sports to include, the IOC removed that option for Beijing onwards. Also worth noting that the two London grounds who could host it - Lords and the Oval - have both been earmarked for other sports (baseball and archery), so there may not be an available venue.

ICC's working on getting into the Olympics - they got their IOC accreditation last year, I think - but it'll be a while yet. Will happen, though, because of the Asian interest in it.

Fingers crossed for cricket to be added, that will be great for the sport. Maybe in future if we meet the qualification criteria, we might be part of the history making teams at the Olympics :D
