The Next African ODI Side? (World Cup Qualifiers)

Post by maehara »

The World Cricket League Division Three tournament has just finished in Argentina, and Uganda have become the third Africa side to qualify for April's World Cup Qualifiers, joining Kenya and Namibia. The tourney sees the current "ODI Associates" having to fight to regain their ODI status - the top four teams in the 10-side competition will qualify for the 2011 World Cup, with the top 6 getting ODI status for the next 4 years.

My bets are on Kenya retaining their status, to be joined by Namibia - I can't see Bermuda keeping their slot as their form has been woeful, and Canada and Netherlands will also have a fight on their hands to keep theirs. Uganda are an outside bet at best - although they did beat us last year. :(

More African ODI sides can only be a good thing - more local competition for Zimbabwe, for a start. Thoughts?
