Jubair Hossain. Had a great googly but he's totally disappeared now. Took a 6 fer in list A cricket in May but got benched by the end of theDPL season. Mehedi has tahen his spot plus can bat.

As for the current Test vs India...its highly possible that we might get bundled out before lunch, and almost guaranteed we don't make it anywhere tea time. Regardless of when we actually lose, I still think this game has been an overall net gain for our reputation as a Test side. I think everyone expected us to roll over to Ashwin and Jadeja and so far we've managed to take the game into a 5th day.

That doesn't mean there aren't concerns. The top order failed (109-4 in the first innings, 75-3 in the second - a combined collapse of 184-7 on a FLAT track), and had they even showed a iota of grit, this match would EASILY be drawn. Add that to the list alongside the Wellington Test which was handed to us and we still failed to take the draw.

Nonetheless the pieces are falling together, slowly, but surely. There are only 2 issues to resolve 1) who should keep wickets and 2) who should replace Mahmudullah's slot in the XI?

Stay tuned as the 2016-17 season rolls on...

No need for Bangladesh to concede defeat to India yet. Mahmudullah is still not out, giving you hope ( of victory even)!
And also note, Shuvagoto Hom has scored a ton & taken 6 wickets in an innings in the latest BCL zonal match.
Sorry, I couldn't resist. I can hear your cringe here in Australia.

How did you know I *used* to loathe Shuvagata Hom?

However, Hom took 2 fabulous catches and a crucial 25 not out in the 2nd innings during our famous win vs England in Dhaka. Its conceivable we could have lost the game had it not been for him. Still don't like him, or think he should be anywhere near the XI, but I can only tip my hat and definitely stop hating the bloke.

6 down just after lunch...we won't make it to tea, but hope Riyad can get a hundred. Still, he should be replaced by either Mosaddek or Nasir Hossain or by Mushfiq and then bring Nurul or Das in as the specialist WK.

Well, we lasted till tea. I think thats about as much fight as we could have hoped for. So overall a net positive this tour. Was also interesting to see that there were decent crowds in to see Bangladesh play. 23,300 on Day 4 (Sunday) which was astounding.

At any rate, there were some good positives to take heading into the series against Sri Lanka. SL will definitely be favorites, but I think the TIgers will be confident that they can compete in SL conditions as we have a fairly settled side. On a flat track we'd have the slight advantage as our batting lineup is stronger. If Mustafiz is back (he's playing his 2nd first class match right now, so should be fit enough), then we'd at least be even on a greentop. Even on a square turner, we'd be OK I think as Shakib, Taijul, and Miraz are as good a spinning trio as any in world cricket. Ashwin and Jadeja didn't bowl any better than our spinners, or much better than our spinners. They just had better fielders to take the slip/bat-pad catches.

This tour will be a very big tour for us, before we head home for a few rain-affected Tests against Pakistan and Australia (unless the Aussies chicken out due to fears of jihadists again).

Is there a reason BD won't tour Zimbabwe ??

Obviously I'm not stating they have a no tour policy but it's been four years since they last toured usually we could expect them every 2 years or so ??

Fear of losing 10 points in the Test and ODI tables probably.

I would like us to see a tour of Zim before the SA tour in October. Might be tough as we have 11 Tests scheduled this year (9 if Australia pull out which is a.ways possible).

The last FTP actually did not have BD touring Zim till 2021 or something. There 4 consecutive bilateral series to be hosted in BD. Dont know how that happened. I suspect with the winds of change brewing in the ICC boardrooms, the BCB will look to avoid playing Zim and create any excuse to do so. I do hope the FTP commitments are kept, as BD has suffered from that in the past. However, after 2019, I can't see many bilateral tours unless of course the ICC changes its mind about the 9 team Test league (highly likely since its changed its mind like 4 times already).

Right now we have a tour of SL, and the board and players are bullish about our chances now (when has BD ever NOT been bullish, lol???). Thats all of March and the first week of April. After that we have a tri series in Ireland in May, and the Champions Trophy in June. Hosting Pakistan in July and possibly Australia in August. Then a tour of South Africa in October. Most hectic 13 month period in our history so far.

2018 is less crammed. Need to check the FTP but we have home away series vs WI, a tour to NZ, and are scheduled to host ZIM in January 2019.

Bangladesh will play its 100th test during this tour of Srl Lanka. Congratulations! Perhaps everyone is bullish because they believe the players will rally behind such a momentous occasion.
But as Zimbabwe found, if you take Sri Lanka lightly, they will bite. Herath is as cunning as ever. Dilruwan Perera is an able partner of spin. Mathews is a world class bat who may be looking for redemption after the disasterous Sth African tour. And the openers, Silva & Karunaratne, will punish if given chances by butter fingered fielders. Lakmal is a fine opening bowler in the right conditions. Man for man Bangladesh may look on par but it is the mental game where they appear to be wanting.
I see the squad hasn't changed much. Even 5 seamers! Including Rubel! I am concerned it appears Bangladesh will continue using Soumya Sarkar as opener. He has exceeded expectations with his performances to date but manufactured openers rarely are long term. I hope this role doesn't become a poisoned chalice for him. (Imrul Kayes is unfit & excluded).
Sabbir Rahman seems to be the most vulnerable for his position. 2 starts against India without consolidating after a double failure against NZ at Christchurch. NZ commentators observed he looked out of his depth at Chrischurch & I recall the Indian commentators saying Bangladesh should have batted better (despite both innings being over 100 overs). I presume they mean players got starts on a pristine batting strip & didn't cash in. Mossadek Hossain is in the squad & must be close to a test spot.
Anyway, good luck to Bangladesh on this landmark.
Just a snippet from cricinfo. At the time of posting, North Zone in the BCL have Nazmul Hossain opening the batting. If you click his link, you are taken to the 1987 born medium pacer with a batting average of 11 & who hasn't played first class cricket since 2015. However, Nazmul Hossain Shanto, a young opener who made his surprise test debut in NZ, is not playing in the BCL. Go figure!
And, finally, a trivia question. Can anyone name the Bangladesh player with the most first class centuries in his career? It has been mentioned in this first class season.

Great post! My reposte:

1) I believe man for man we have more talent...a lot more. But SL are on their turf and we are still mentally frail (but improving slowly).
2) Soumya is a specialist opener!
3) Sabbir did well in his first few innings, still early days. Mosaddek deserved the spot over him on numbers, but Sabbir is a promising batter.
4) The SL openers are their weakest link IMO.
5) I should know this Trivia question...my guess will be...damn I have no clue. Tushar Imran since he's been around forever but I dont recall him scoring many tons.

Tushar Imran is correct. He's in fine format this stage of his career.
Soumya Sarkar IS an opener! Crickey! A lot of trust in him for one who has hit only one century in 42 first class games at 28.
I feel both he & Sabbir Rahman would benefit from an 'A' tour ( here I go again) where they would be captain & vice captain. Just give them responsibility & see if they respond.
